Antibody therapies are offering promising treatment breakthroughs for cancer and other illnesses, generating greater investor interest more than 20 years after they were first commercialised. Antibodies are proteins that recognise foreign substances, known as antigens, attaching themselves to them to alert the rest of the human immune system. In 1975, scientists Georges Koehler and Cesar Milstein discovered how to produce them in a laboratory, which later earned them a Nobel Prize for medicine. Dozens of synthetic antibodies have since been developed. New antibody treatments to be used with chemotherapy have arrived on the scene in recent years. Most recently, a clinical trial of an antibody developed by pharmaceutical groups Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca caught the attention of leading cancer specialists gathered at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual congress in Chicago this month. The treatment, Enhertu, was already authorised for breast cancer patients … [Read more...] about New antibody therapies fight cancer, drum up investment

Pushing journalism to the forefront of digitalisation
Colin Blackwell, Founder and CEO Enablecode We live in an age of exponential change. It is said that the amount of change we will observe in our own lifetimes will be at least as much as all the changes of all human history that preceded it. We could well think that it would have been fun to be there when Gutenberg printed his first-ever document in 1450, but we are in luck as we will all witness even greater changes. In my younger days in England, I would subscribe to the old broadsheets – impractically large sheets of paper that always managed to get awkwardly crumpled and annoy the person next to you on the train. Whatever was included was all that you could access at that moment. What a contrast to today. We are nowadays so used to reading whatever most interests us personally in a convenient way online, that we forget how that was all made possible. As media readers, we are almost spoilt for choice, with everything so easy and accessible online. But that all took a huge … [Read more...] about Pushing journalism to the forefront of digitalisation

The Local Game: Just what is going on with Nguyễn Quang Hải’s transfer?
Nguyễn Quang Hải’s next destination is still a mystery. Photo baogiaothong.vn Peter Cowan Who doesn’t love a good transfer saga? While it may feel like football is now a 24/7, 365 day a year sport, there are in fact lulls in the beautiful game’s calendar. Transfer intrigue can often be a great way to fill in the interminable gaps between real football matches but the saga centred around Vietnamese football at the minute is one I could do without. Nguyễn Quang Hải left Hà Nội FC back in April, ostensibly to sign for a European club, and yet as June draws to a close, he still remains unsigned. Over the past few months various outlets have reported that the pint-sized playmaker is close to signing with Austrian, Swiss and now French clubs. Hải has been linked with no less than four clubs in the latter country’s Ligue 2, with breathless reports noting that he has his visa and is only awaiting a medical checkup. Again, transfer sagas can be great … [Read more...] about The Local Game: Just what is going on with Nguyễn Quang Hải’s transfer?
