Dozens of sculptures by 26 young artists are on display at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum. — Photo nhandan.org.vn Viet Nam News HCM CITY — More than 50 sculptures by 26 young artists from HCM City and Hà Nội are on display at an exhibition titled Điêu Khắc Sài Gòn-Hà Nội (Sài Gòn-Hà Nội Sculpture) at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum. The works are in wood, glass, stone, aluminium, stainless steel and other materials. Some are two or more metres high. Featured works made by Nguyễn Ngọc Lâm, Phạm Thái Bình and Trần Việt Hà symbolise hope for love and peace. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits national arts museum
The museum conserves nearly 20,000 pieces of artwork and objects of various materials and forms which hold historical and artistic value, including nine national treasures. It currently displays about 2,000 items, which are outstanding examples of Vietnam’s fine arts from the prehistoric period to the imperial period and onto the present day. Speaking with the museum staff, PM Phuc praised their preservation of the artworks, many of which hold great value, and urged the museum to make greater efforts in attracting more visitors and make Vietnamese fine arts known to the public, both at home and abroad. HCM City Fine Arts Museum boasts new lighting system
Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Museum new lighting system has just been completed with support from French experts. This is the city’s fifth site using the lighting system under the lighting co-operation programme between HCM City and the French city of Lyon after Nha Rong Wharf, HCM City People’s Committee's headquarters, Municipal Theatre and HCM City Post Office. An exploration of HCMC Fine Arts Museum Ann Wheaton By Ann Wheaton in HCMC For those culture vultures interested in exploring Vietnam through its art there is no better place to start than the HCMC Museum of Fine Art, the major art museum in the city. Housed in a grand colonial era mansion built by a very wealthy Chinese trading family it is a fabulous mix of French and Chinese architecture. Unfortunately there is no written information available to the public at the museum but unearthing information about the architecture and its contents will give the visitor a more enhanced view of both the building and the art works on display. Research on the historical background of the mansion gave it some substance. It was built by Mr Hui Bon Hoa, who was the richest businessman in Saigon in the early 20th century.
