According to the city’s Department of Tourism , the event aims to revive tourism activities after a period of crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some 160 domestic and international dancers in colorful costumes join the parade moving along the city streets in a festive atmosphere. The carnival takes place from 7.30pm to 9.30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays until July 24, except for July 9, with ten parade cars decorated with replicas of Da Nang’s famous tourist attractions, departing from Tran Thi Ly Bridge to APEC park on the west end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge and arriving at a square on Bach Dang Street. Organizers hope the street carnival is expected to bring tourists and local residents jubilant and brilliant summer months. The price of pork has increased by VND15,000-30,000 per kilogramme since early this month to VND120,000-180,000 (US$5.1-7.7), and that of chicken by VND10,000-15,000 to around VND60,000. A kilogramme of pork rib at Ong Dia Market in Tan Binh District costs VND180,000, while bacon is VND160,000 and cutlets, VND140,000. The price of piglets is up 20 per cent from two months ago. Vietnam has recorded the appearance of the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant, according to the General Department of Preventive Medicine under the health ministry. At the health ministry’s press meeting on Monday, Phan Trong Lan, head of the General Department of Preventive Medicine, said that gene sequencing results showed that the BA.5 sub-variant of the Omicron has been found in the country. Lan said the intrusion was inevitable as a result of the reopening of the economy and the 'new normal' situation of relaxed precautionary protocols. The BA.5 sub-variant was first detected in South Africa in January. Since then, it has become a dominant strain in several countries. The health ministry said it continues to monitor new strains and World Health Organization (WHO) information, adjusting and implementing measures to prevent and control the spread of the coronavirus.
