Under coach Park Hang-seo, the Vietnamese national team entered the FIFA top 100 list on November 29, 2018. Since then, there have been 29 updates of the ranking and Vietnam have maintained their top 100 position throughout. At one point, in real-time rankings and between the updates, Vietnam temporarily fell to 102nd position after losing to Australia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, but quickly returned to the top 100 by beating China on February 1 this year. If only official updates are counted, Vietnam have been in the top 100 from November 2018 until now. Vietnam have dropped one spot compared to the previous ranking update. The Golden Dragons have 1,219 points, eight less than Belarus in 96th place. Vietnam still lead Southeast Asia, followed by Thailand and the Philippines. In Asia, Vietnam rank 17th. Lâm Túc Ngân, 27, from HCM City, qualified for the biggest event after winning Ironman Philippines 140.6’s 25-29 year-old female group and finishing in the top 8 of the women's ranking. Vietnam's star midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai officially joined the roster of French club Pau FC after passing a medical on Wednesday. The verified Facebook page of Pau FC, headquartered in Pau District, Pyrénées-Atlantiques Province, about 800 kilometers from Paris, published a post to introduce Hai to fans following his successful completion of a medical examination. “Vietnam international offensive midfielder (45 selections) joins Pau FC for the next two seasons. Semi-automated offside technology will be used at this year's World Cup, promising decisions that are more accurate and a lot quicker, world soccer's governing body FIFA said on Friday. In what can be considered an extraordinary development in the officiating of the game, technology will be able to resolve contentious offside calls with a speed and accuracy unimaginable less than a decade ago. Using cameras strategically positioned around the stadiums, and a chip in the match ball, FIFA said the technology will go a long way to cutting down on continuous Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decisions on marginal offside calls and reduce the time needed to check.
