The program is dedicated to the 10 young women volunteers who gave their lives for the victory of Dong Loc during the anti-American war. An art performance celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Dong Loc Victory is being produced by the Vietnam Women's Museum and director Le Quy Duong. Titled Huyen Thoai Thanh Xuan (Legend of Youth), the performance is dedicated to 10 young female volunteers who gave their lives for the Dong Loc Victory during the anti-American war. Dong Loc T-junction is located in Dong Loc Commune in the Central province of Ha Tinh, on the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail. The stage is designed to recreate the Dong Loc battlefield. From 1965 to 1968, the US Army dropped nearly 50,000 bombs and fired tens of thousands of missiles on the Dong Loc T-junction to cut off the transport route to the southern front. The European Union (EU) will apply five assistance tools to Vietnam’s multifaceted development plan, as well as rapidly resolve its Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing ‘yellow card’ warning against the Southeast Asian country, the new EU ambassador to Vietnam recently announced. Ambassador Julien Guerrier was speaking at his first media meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, one day after taking office and presenting his letter of credentials to Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong. Vietnam is an important EU partner in its Indo-Pacific strategy and the EU is one of Vietnam’s most reliable and long-standing friends and partners, Guerrier affirmed. Singapore’s GIC among bidders vying for stake in Vietnam’s third largest grocery chain
SINGAPORE/HANOI -- Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC is among investors vying to buy up to 20 percent stake in grocer Bach Hoa Xanh from Vietnam's retail giant Mobile World Investment, in a deal that could value the grocery chain at up to $1.7 billion, two sources said. GIC declined to comment. Other bidders include companies from Thailand, the sources added, declining to be named as the matter is private. The identity of the potential buyers has not been reported previously. "The deal is nearing to the finalising stage and expected to close soon," one of the sources with knowledge of the matter said, adding that a deal could be sealed as early as the first quarter of next year if negotiations are successful. Over 1,100 pigs swept away by floodwaters in Vietnam
Upstream floodwaters caused by heavy rains over the past couple of days took a heavy toll on a pig farm in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam, with 1,108 pigs swept away as of 10:00 am on Thursday. The incident triggered estimated losses of over VND3 billion (US$123,259), Dong Van Thanh, who manages the pig farm under Nhu Xuan Agriculture Development Company, located in the province’s Nhu Xuan District, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the same day. Le Tien Dat, head of the district’s agriculture and rural development sub-department, said the agency has worked with relevant bodies and the company to jointly cope with the aftermath of the incident.
