The study, done by UNICEF, WHO and health organizations, said the rate in Vietnam fell to 8.2 percent in 2015 from 9.2 percent in 2000. The number of newborns of below average weight, described as less than 2.5 kilograms or 5.5 pounds, stayed almost constant at 130,000 per year during the period. Rana Flowers, UNICEF’s representative in Vietnam, said: "This figure is most encouraging. However as a national average, it does not give us the complete picture and is likely to hide important disparities." She said among poor people 28 percent of mothers do not have institutional deliveries, and their children’s weights are not usually recorded. Vietnam’s Thuy Linh secures a Top 12 finish at Miss World 2019
Luong Thuy Linh, Vietnam’s representative at Miss World 2019, finished among the Top 12 at the pageant which recently concluded in London, the UK. Thuy Linh holds a golden tray aloft as she competes in the Dance of the World segment of Miss World 2019. In preparation for the contest, the girl from Cao Bang province put in plenty of hard work to come up with a bespoke dance. She gives a strong performance during the pageant’s grand final as she competes alongside 120 contestants from across the world. The Vietnamese beauty went into the grand final in good form having previously been named among the Top 10 in the Top Model and Beauty with a Purpose segments. Thuy Linh is a 19-year-old from Cao Bang province. She was crowned Miss World Vietnam 2019 in August and stands at 1.77 metres tall with measurements of 89-64-92. Medical experts identify the gut as the most vulnerable organ for Vietnamese
Speaking at the Bridging Basic and Clinical Science for Gut Health conference on Sunday, they said 70 percent of Vietnamese are at risk of gastrointestinal diseases due to Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. Nearly 10 percent of the population already suffers from conditions like constipation, digestive disorders, gastroesophageal reflux, belching, and abdominal distension and serious problems such as cancer, peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome, and enteritis. Gastric cancer is the third most common in the country after liver cancer and lung cancer. The Global Cancer Organization (GLOBOCAN) estimates that Vietnam had more than 14,000 new cases of colorectal cancer and over 7,000 deaths due to it last year. A documentary film on Vietnamese seas and islands produced by HCM City Television Film Studio (TFS) will air next month. Contest popularises Vietnam’s sovereignty over seas and islands Photo exhibition to feature Vietnam’s seas, islands Various environmental activities to be held during Vietnam Seas and Island Week 2019 Đảo Khát (Life in Islands) features famous islands of the coastal provinces Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang and Ca Mau. Coffee exports suffer strong drops
Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Coffee exports in November saw a 13.9 percent decrease in volume to 120,000 tonnes, earning 207 million USD, a drop of 20.4 percent compared to the same period last year. According to statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the volume of coffee shipments abroad in the January-November period came to 1.473 million tonnes, down 14.6 percent, while export value also experienced a 22.2 percent decrease to nearly 2.54 billion USD. The total export volume for the entire 2019 is estimated at 1.57 million tonnes, and the value at 2.7 billion USD, falling 16.57 percent and 21.17 percent, respectively, from 2018.
