The event was co-organised by the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC), the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF)’s student union and the Green for Future club. The president of a university in Ho Chi Minh City has been accused of wastefulness building an artificial pine tree on the campus, whereas a university officer claims that both his school and alumni provide the fund for it. The school has allowed and supported the students in decorating the ‘smart pine tree’ for Christmas and New Year for the last four years, in line with its principles of education, according to Dr. Do Van Dung, president of the university. The fact that leaders and officers of the HCM City Education and Training Department receive remuneration for compiling textbooks has caused a stir among the public. In a document from the Ministry of Education and Trianing (MOET) to the local press, the ministry affirmed that in order to ensure fairness, publicity and transparency in choosing textbooks, the ministry has drafted a circular (which has been published on its website for public opinions) which stipulates that those who compile and inspect textbooks will not be allowed to become members of councils which have the right to choose textbooks for use. The fact that the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the HCM City Education and Training Department are joining hands to compile textbooks is the responsibility of involved parties and they need to explain this to MOET.
