NCHMF deputy director Hoang Phuc Lam said the center was monitoring the possibility of weather disturbances that could evolve into tropical depressions or storms in the East Sea over the next five to seven days. Tropical storm Mulan to hit northern Vietnam tomorrow
The storm is forecast to cause heavy downpours and rough seas in the northern region, including Hanoi, in the coming days. A tropical low depression has strengthened into a tropical storm named Mulan, which will hit the northern coast of Vietnam early on August 11 morning, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF). Mulan is the second tropical storm to have formed in the East Sea this year and will enter Vietnamese waters shortly, the center said, adding that its center was 480 kilometers from Mong Cai in the northern province of Quang Ninh this morning with winds of up to 62-88 kilometers per hour (kph). A tropical depression in the East Vietnam Sea strengthened into a storm on Tuesday and is expected to bring heavy downpours to northern and north-central provinces over the next few days. Storm Mulan, the second to hit Vietnam this year, was located 480 kilometers southeast of northern Quang Ninh Province at 7:00 am on Wednesday, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. The highest wind speed was recorded at 62-88km per hour with gusts up to 117km an hour. The storm is forecast to travel northwest in the next 24 hours and is expected to be 70 kilometers south of Quang Ninh, packing winds of 62-74km per hour. A tropical depression formed in the northern part of the East Sea on August 9 and is likely to strengthen into a storm in the next 24 hours, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. Northern coastal provinces will brace for a spell of heavy rain in the coming day as a new storm is likely to form in the East Sea on August 10. The tropical depression, packing winds of between 39-49kph near its centre at around 1am on August 9, is forecast to move north and north-east and then change its direction into north and north-west to travel at a speed of 10kph. New securities accounts hit near two-year low in July
Hanoi - The number of newly-opened securities accounts dropped sharply in July to the lowest in about two years as stock market liquidity hit a monthly low. Retail investors continued to be the market’s key contributor opening 198,988 new accounts, with 140 accounts from institutional investors. Cuu Long JOC - comprising Petro Vietnam , ConocoPhillips, KNOC, SK Corporation, and Geopetrol - is the second-biggest oil producer in Vietnam that was established in 1998. According to Cuu Long JOC Director Nguyen Van Que , as of 2011, the firm had paid 11.9 billion USD to the State budget, and posted a revenue of 27.3 billion USD. In the first seven months of this year, the company installed underground pumps and successfully drilled two more wells. Therefore, the firm expects to pay 864 million USD to the State budget this year, he said. According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the center of the low-pressure area lay to the south of Guangdong Province, with maximum wind speed of 50 kph at 1 p.m.. on Thursday. In the next 24 hours, the area will move in the west-northwest direction at the speed of 10-15 kph and enter Guangdong. Under its impact, Hanoi and other northern localities will receive heavy rains in the next three days.
