Shares rose a second day on both exchanges. — VNA/VNS Photo Shares climbed for a second day as good performace of global stock markets prior to the Fed’s announcement of a rate hike supported local investors’ psychology. The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange increased by 0.79 per cent to close Wednesday at 1,040.54 points. It rose nearly 1 per cent in the previous session. The market breadth was positive with 203 stocks gaining, 170 losing while the other 128 closed flat. Although the trading was cautious, increasing liquidity in buying force at high prices led to an improvement in stock prices, especially in the banking and real estate industries. Speaking at the event, Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Karl Van den Bossche said the logo design contest for the occasion was open for Vietnamese designers and young artists. Through various media channels, the organising board received 130 entries. The winning logo was designed by Ly Khanh Linh, a 22-year-old student from Graphic Design Faculty at FPT University. It was inspired by famous cultural heritages of both countries with the hope of conveying the message of cultural exchange and friendship. The move comes amid concerns that this measure might undermine the competitive advantage of developing countries in attracting foreign investment through offering tax incentives. The global minimum tax was Pillar Two of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development ( OECD )’s base erosion and profit-shifting (BEPS) framework. UN warns ‘vampiric overconsumption’ is draining world’s water
The United Nations used its first conference on water security in almost half a century on Wednesday to exhort governments to better manage one of humanity's shared resources. A quarter of the world's population relies on unsafe drinking water while half lacks basic sanitation, the U.N. said. Meanwhile, nearly three quarters of recent disasters have been related to water. "We are draining humanity's lifeblood through vampiric overconsumption and unsustainable use, and evaporating it through global heating," said U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
