Ho Chi Minh City mull over leasing part of roadways, sidewalks
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is formulating a plan to lease part of the local roadways and sidewalks for activities other than traffic purposes. The transport department has requested relevant units to review and create a list of streets whose roadbeds and sidewalks are suitable for activities other than traffic. On November 15, 2022, this agency asked the municipal People’s Committee to consider replacing Decision No. 74/2008 on the management and use of roadbeds and sidewalks in the metropolis. The department is now making a draft plan that will be considered as a replacement of Decision No. 74/2008. The draft plan highlights that part of the roadways and sidewalks can be temporarily leased for activities such as merchandise sales, installation of public works and utilities, parking service, and cultural activities. Vietnam calls for ASEAN cooperation to spur tourism development

Speaking at a press conference on the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 in Indonesia on February 5, the official said apart from traditional markets that have experienced difficulties, ASEAN should seek new ones and adjust some policies relating to aviation connection and visas. He also suggested the bloc continue implementing tourism development strategies for 2016-2025 and adjust and update them after each meeting of ASEAN tourism ministers. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The capital city of Hanoi’s labour market has seen positive developments after the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, presenting a ‘golden opportunity’ for the sustainable development and expansion of the social insurance system. Statistics from the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA) revealed that only 31 companies in the city had to cut working hours or terminate contracts with their employees, which total more than 13,000. The department said that this was only a fraction compared to figures in other key labour markets. Meanwhile, last year also saw approximately 203,000 people finding new employment, an increase of 13% compared to 2021. The growth in the labour market also translated to a rise in the number of people signing up for social insurance. These communication programmes need to be effective to curb IUU fishing , especially since the European Commission (EC) issued a “yellow card” warning against Vietnamese seafood in 2017. Last year, the provincial People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau issued a warning radio message to keep fishermen in line. Lam Dong province recognises hi-tech coffee growing area

(Photo baolamdong.vn) Lam Dong (VNS/VNA) - The People’s Committee of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has recognised a 371.6ha coffee growing area in Di Linh district as a hi-tech coffee growing area . Located in Dinh Lac commune’s Tan Lac 1, Tan Lac 3 and Tan Lac 4 villages, the area is cultivated by 325 households, four co-operatives and six coffee producing and processing establishments. In the hi-tech coffee growing area, coffee growing households use machines to till the land and use automatic and semi-automatic chemical spraying mechanisms to prevent and control diseases. They also use composted animal manure to fertilise coffee. Up to 90% of the area’s coffee beans are dried by driers. The area is also equipped with automatic weather and soil moisture monitoring facilities.
