Four-day-long heat wave forecast to take hold across HCMC The Saigon Times Motorists wear clothing to protect them from the sun while traveling on the road. A heat wave is likely to descend on HCMC for four days starting tomorrow, March 4 – PHOTO: VNA HCMC – The southern weather center said that a heat wave is likely to descend on HCMC for four days starting tomorrow, March 4, with temperatures in the southern city expected to reach a maximum 34-35 degrees Celsius. The heat wave will go on from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. everyday, the center added. Further, the scorching heat is forecast to spread to some southeastern provinces including Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong and Dong Nai, kicking off high temperatures at 35 degrees Celsius or even higher. The heat wave could also extend to provinces located in the western part of the Mekong Delta. The high temperatures coupled with low humidity in the afternoon will trigger sultriness across the south. Accordingly, local residents working outdoors or travelling on the street during the hot days should drink more water to avoid dehydration. Meanwhile, the temperatures could drop sharply toward the evening, with the cool weather being perfect for outdoor activities. …

Hanoi, HCMC mandate self-isolation for people from Hai Duong outbreak areas

The Hanoi Health Department required people entering Hanoi from Hai Duong Town (the capital city of Hai Duong Province), Kim Mon Town, Kim Thanh and Cam Giang Districts to isolate themselves at home. They also have to medically declare themselves and install Covid-19 contact tracing apps like Bluezone or NCOVI. Those who tested negative for the novel coronavirus within three days before leaving Hai Duong would not have to isolate themselves, it added. Though Ho Chi Minh City no longer isolates those entering the city from Hai Duong at centralized quarantine zones, people coming from 16 Hai Duong locations where Covid-19 patients were recorded in the latest outbreak must still self-isolate, according to the HCMC Center for Disease Control (HCDC). The 16 locations are Cong Hoa Ward, Van Duc Ward, Sao Do Town, An Lac Commune, Hung Dao Commune, Nam Tran Commune, Lai Cach Town, Tan Truong Commune, Cam Dien Commune, Luong Dien Commune, Thanh Binh Ward, Nhi Chau Ward, Kim Lien Commune, Kim Dinh Commune, Ke Sat Town and Thanh Lang Commune. Northern Hai Duong Province, the epicenter of a recent coronavirus wave in Vietnam with 684 cases, ended 15 days of province-wide social distancing Wednesday. But over 900 Covid-19 checkpoints were still active in the province, while certain areas with coronavirus outbreaks are still under lockdown, including Kim Dinh Commune with a population of over 7,400. Vietnam has recorded 2,475 Covid-19 cases so far, with 538 still active. …

Coach Park Hang Seo: Vietnam needs 6 points to move forward

Coach Park Hang Seo has set a goal for the Vietnam national football squad: to win at least six points in the remaining three matches of Group G, the second qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia. "The goal is so that we can get a card to the final round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia," said the head coach. Currently, after five matches, the Vietnamese team has 11 points, ranking first in Group G. It is likely that the Korean coach and his players are aiming to defeat Indonesia and Malaysia. Of these two rivals, if Indonesia has been eliminated, Malaysia will no longer have the home advantage because the remaining matches of Group G will be held in one place, perhaps in the United Arab Emirates or Thailand. According to the schedule announced earlier by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Vietnamese team will face Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia on June 11 and the United Arab Emirates on June 15. "In 2021, the Vietnamese football team will play in some important tournaments and they are great challenges. Our success is in the past, but now the team must look to the future,” the coach said. “This is a busy year, so we will have to allocate strength in major tournaments such as the World Cup qualifiers, the Asian U23 qualifiers, the SEA Games and AFF Cup," he added. The Korean coach admitted that he and his team would do their best to fulfill the goals. Regarding the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia, if the United Arab Emirates is chosen as the host, Vietnam and three other Southeast Asian teams in the group will have to play in extreme weather conditions. Their matches will take place in June, the peak of the summer heatwave in the Middle East. In 2020, there were days when the temperature there reached 43 degrees Celsius. In another development, the Vietnamese team will not have to be isolated when they arrive at the place where the remaining three matches of the second qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup will …
