The diplomat told a press conference in Hanoi on April 23 that the event marks the 70th anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka (February 4) and the 48th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Sri Lanka (1970-2018). Vietnam-Sri Lank Business Forum Opens
The forum creates conditions for the two countries' businesses to exchange experiences and seek opportunities of co-operation and investment in pharmaceuticals, health care, real estate and food products. It was held by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), along with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka-Vietnam Business Council and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Vietnam. Speaking at the forum, Hoang Van Dung, VCCI's Standing Vice President, said that Vietnam and Sri Lanka have similarities in history and economic development. He said he believes that the two countries' businesses will take full advantage of this potential to create new investment and co-operative opportunities. The Vietnam-Sri Lanka Business Cooperation Council made its debut on October 19 in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, setting to boost bilateral trade, investment and tourism cooperation between the two countries. Following the establishment of formal diplomatic relations in 1970, Vietnam opened a resident mission in Colombo in May 1971, while Sri Lanka's Ambassador in China was concurrently accredited to Vietnam.
