Vietnam pins high hopes on trade with U.S. Dinh Hiep HCMC – Despite imminent changes in economic relations due to uncertainties surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, Vietnamese enterprises are still confident in stronger trade ties with the U.S., said experts at a conference in HCMC on December 20. Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, chairman of Global Integration Business Consultants (GIBC), said Vietnamese businesses hope the U.S. will remain the biggest importer of Vietnam in the next 20 years. Two-way trade between Vietnam and the U.S. increased five times from US$8.81 billion in 2006 to US$45 billion last year. For HCMC alone, bilateral trade rose from US$5 billion in 2012 to US$8 billion in 2016. “HCMC looks to continue receiving investments from the U.S. and expects the U.S. to soon become its top investor,” Le Thanh Liem, vice chairman of the city government, told the conference on business interaction between Vietnam and the U.S. after 2016, which was … [Read more...] about Vietnam pins high hopes on trade with U.S.
VASEP pins high hopes on EU market Ngoc Hung By Ngoc Hung - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Though Vietnamese shrimp exported to the European Union is subject to strict controls on oxytetracycline residue, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has still forecast a strong increase in shipments there in the coming months. VASEP explained European consumers favored the products processed from white-leg shrimp, which contributed US$1.58 billion to the country’s seafood revenue last year compared to US$1.33 billion from tiger prawn. Vietnam’s frozen shrimp shipments to the EU started to jump in the second half of 2013. The exports of white-leg shrimp and tiger prawn to that market brought in nearly US$410 million for Vietnam, … [Read more...] about VASEP pins high hopes on EU market
MELBOURNE, May 26, 2010 (AFP) - The Socceroos left Australia on Wednesday with high hopes of making an impact at next month's World Cup in South Africa. The Australian squad will be the first overseas team to arrive in the host country and coach Pim Verbeek has scheduled the first day of training in Johannesburg on Thursday. Captain Lucas Neill told an official farewell at Melbourne Airport that Australia were heading to South Africa with their confidence high. "We are going to go out and do you proud and let's hope we can have another rollercoaster of excitement like the last journey was," Neill said. Australia made it through the group stage at the 2006 tournament in Germany before being eliminated by eventual champions Italy through a disputed last-minute penalty in the second round. Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, another veteran of the 2006 campaign, said the excitement of playing at the showpiece was just as great the second time around. "If you don't get excited … [Read more...] about Aussies leave for World Cup with high hopes
