Experts mull ways for sustainable urban development By Thoa Nguyen - The Saigon Times Daily HANOI – Hanoi is serving as an economic, political and commercial center of the country, so severe traffic snarl is an everyday sight in the capital. Experts have called for an improvement in urban planning and management to cope with the situation. Yoshio Wada, head of the department for economic infrastructure and urban and regional development of Japan, was speaking of the chronic issue faced by Hanoi on the sidelines of the Vietnam-Japan Urban Development seminar in Hanoi last week. Wada highlighted urban planning and management of vehicular traffic in urban areas must be prioritized to reduce traffic jams. He suggested developing satellite cities around core urban areas to ease pressure on big cities. The ash from burning stuff flies everywhere, even into other households' apartments. Many other ladies make the most of corridor space for cooking by beehive stove. The smell from the honeycomb charcoal has made other residents, especially children, unbearable.
