You wouldn't always associate martial artists with flower arranging, but Nguyen Cong Hoa's creations prove that he's a man with more than one string to his bow. As a martial artist Nguyen Cong Hoa knows that the element of surprise is often the most effective way to make an impact. His naturally dried flowers were an unexpected hit at last year's Dalat Flower Festival 2007 and his booth earned a gold medal and a certificate of merit from the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee. "Among the 700 displays, there was only one featuring dried flowers," says Hoa, who has been the chairman of the Lam Dong Province's Vovinam Association (Vietnamese martial arts) for 16 years. His dried roses, carnations and orchids were the product of more than two years of field work and research at his self-styled lab in Van Thanh village in Lam Dong.
