Vietnam to start FTA talks with South Korea next year By Tran Thu - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Vietnam and South Korea will start negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) early next year with an aim to create more business opportunities for enterprises of the two countries, Korean officials said on Tuesday. Kim Deok Ku, deputy director of FTA Division under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, said on the sidelines of a conference on ASEAN-South Korea FTA on Tuesday that his country had completed a feasibility study for an FTA with Vietnam. The agreement is planned to be discussed early next year, he added. PANO - South Korea will sharply increase its ODA and non-refundable aid for Vietnam in the period 2011-2015, according to the South Korean newly-appointed Ambassador to Vietnam, Ha Chanho. At a news conference on June 8 th that he had held for the first time since his recent arrival in Hanoi, the new South Korean Ambassador announced that South Korea would provide some US$ 3 billion of ODA for Vietnam during 2011 and 2015, up by 2.5 per cent by contrast to the period 1996-2010. Although Vietnam has newly become a medium-income nation, the country still needs capital for socio-economic development. The South Korean Government has realised Vietnam’s needs and it will continue to provide more ODA and non-refundable aid for Vietnamese projects; it must be pointed out, that Vietnam is one of a small number of nations to receive large amounts of ODA from South Korea, he added.
