Thailand’s 2022 rice exports beat target
Thailand exports 7.69 million tonnes of rice in 2022, up 22.1% from a year earlier. (Photo: Reuters) Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand exported 7.69 million tonnes of rice in 2022, up 22.1% from a year earlier, the country’s Commerce Ministry said on January 31. The exports exceeded a target of 7.5 million tonnes, with top markets being Iraq, South Africa, China, and the US, it said in a statement. Thai rice exports were strong last year because of the weak baht, according to Ronnarong Phoolpipat, head of the ministry’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office. Earlier this month, the Thai Rice Exporters Association lowered its target for 2023 from 8 million tonnes to 7.5 million as the baht, which is which is now trading around 32.50 to the US dollar, has appreciated dramatically after reaching a low of 38 last October. Dak Lak exports first bananas to China
A company in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has exported 10 banana containers to China, the first to the neighbouring country so far this year. The VND5 billion (USD212,765) batch of 210 tonnes of bananas were grown by Banana Brothers Farm JS Company (BBF) in Village 1, Ea Yieng Commune, M'Drak Commune. Dak Lak exports 10 banana containers to China on January 31. Le Thi My Hanh, general director of BBF, said that "We’ve been working at full capacity to ensure this first order this year.” BBF started growing around 150 hectares of Cavendish bananas in 2020, using strict technical export standards. The company exported 6,500 tonnes of bananas to South Korea, China and Japan last year. The activities created a joyful and exhilarating atmosphere for Vietnamese peacekeepers and international friends to embark on a new year with new spirit, promises, and successes. In the New Year atmosphere, the Vietnamese peacekeeping force in UNMISS organized an activity in Tomping Base in Juba, South Sudan with the participation of a large number of guests who are commanding officers of agencies and colleagues at the mission. The event was attended by Police Commissioner of UNMISS Christine Fossen and peacekeepers of the Vietnam People’s Army and Public Security, commanding officers and personnel of the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 4 of Vietnam. Around 90 kilometers south of Hanoi, Ninh Binh, home to Hoa Lu (the ancient capital of Vietnam during the reign of the Dinh Dynasty 968-980), had been overlooked by foreign tourists for years. Vietnamese striker Nguyen Tien Linh included in Asia’s Best Footballer 2022 nominee list
Vietnamese striker Nguyen Tien Linh has been listed among the 25 nominees for the Best Footballer in Asia 2022 award organized by Titan Sports newspaper of China. Linh is one of three Southeast Asian players competing for the award. The other two regional nominees are Thai defender Theerathon Bunmathan and Singaporean striker Ikhsan Fandi. Among other nominees are many superstars such as Son Heung Min of South Korea, Kaoru Mitoma of Japan, and Mehdi Taremi of Iran.
