Canada's westernmost province of British Columbia has opened a new trade and investment office in Vietnam as part of a new international trade strategy to provide more jobs and opportunities for B.C. and Vietnamese businesses to work together. Canada currently ranks 22nd out of 117 countries and territories investing in the Southern largest economic hub with 113 projects worth about 130 million USD. Two-way trade turnover hit some 630 million USD in 2022, an annual increase of more than 30%, according to the Vice Chairman. Hoan said the outcomes, however, have yet to be on par with their potential for cooperation and expressed his hope to boost the city’s collaboration with Canadian provinces, including British Columbia, particularly in commerce and investment. Ho Chi Minh City is willing to work closely with British Columbia in green growth areas where the city has demand and the Canadian province has advantages such as human resources training and waste treatment. Wildfire in Canada’s Halifax leads to evacuation orders for thousands of homes
HALIFAX -- A wildfire in the eastern Canadian city of Halifax led to mandatory evacuation orders for thousands of homes, and officials said residents will not be not allowed to return until advised by municipal authorities. Halifax Mayor Mike Savage said the evacuations impacted about 18,000 people. The orders issued Sunday cover areas of Hammonds Plains, Upper Tantallon and Pockwock. These suburban communities are home to many of the city's workers and are situated about 15 miles from Halifax. Residents in nearby neighborhoods, which are surrounded by forest, were left uneasy throughout the night. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in atweeton Monday called the wildfire situation in the province of Nova Scotia, where Halifax is located, "incredibly serious," and said his government was ready to provide any assistance if needed.
