Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project restarts in third quarter
According to the Ministry of Transport, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway construction project is invested by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC). The project has a total length of 57.8 kilometers, passing through Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai provinces. The project's total investment is VND31.32 trillion, using loans from the Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and domestic reciprocal funds. According to the original plan, the project would be carried out from 2014 to 2019. However, during the implementation process, some mechanism and policy changes caused the project not to be allocated capital and have to halt construction from 2019. In a recent document sent to the PM, the MoIT suggested investors of those projects negotiate electricity prices and power purchase and sale contracts with Viet Nam Electricity (EVN). Of a total of 78,121 MW of installed capacity of electricity sources nationwide, there was 16,545 MW of solar power, including 8,904 MW of concentrated solar power and 7,660 MW of rooftop solar power and 4,126 MW of wind power that have been put into operation and have enjoyed the FIT (preferential purchase price) according to the Prime Minister’s decision. WB releases report ‘Educate to Grow’ on Vietnamese economic situation
According to the report, despite the challenging global economic environment, the outlook for the Vietnamese economy is still favorable according to the baseline forecast. Due to the impact of the low starting point, GDP is expected to grow by 7.5 percent in 2022 and 6.7 percent in 2023, when growth returns to pre-pandemic levels at 6.5-7 percent. Meanwhile, the average inflation is expected to fall around 3.8 percent in 2022, with the rising trend continuing in the second half of 2022. “The fuel price shock is expected to dissipate in 2023, but the second round of spillover effect continues to happen, and the forecasted GDP growth rate of 6.7 percent for the year will cause CPI to increase to 4 percent in 2023 before dropping to 3.3 percent in 2024,” the report said.
