Air passenger surges 20% in first nine months
Passengers at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM CIty. — VNA/VNS Photo Hồng Đạt The number of passengers travelling by air in the first nine months of the year increased by 20 per cent compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 89 million, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV). Among these passengers, the number of international travellers hit 23.7 million, representing an extraordinary growth rate of 267 per cent compared to the same period in 2022. Domestic passengers amounted to 65.2 million, marking a modest decrease of 4 per cent over the same period last year. Between January and September, Vietnamese airlines carried 44.1 million people, a year-on-year increase of 20.3 per cent. Of the total, there were 11.5 million international passengers, up 300 per cent from 2022. Vietnam world’s 19th most visited destination this summer
Vietnam ranked 19th in a list of 40 most visited countries based on an analysis of flight bookings between July 1 and August 31 by Spain-based travel data and analytics company ForwardKeys. Most Southeast Asian countries, except Thailand, stood behind Vietnam on the list, including the Philippines at 23rd, Singapore 24th, Indonesia 27th, and Malaysia 36th. Thailand was 14th and one of the only two Southeast Asian countries to break into the top 20 along with Vietnam. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Vietnam by air this summer jumped 12% over the same period last year but was 28% lower than pre-pandemic levels, the report said. Vietnam welcomed 2.3 million international visitors in July and August, equivalent to 80% of the figure during the same period in 2019. China-ASEAN civil aviation center launched
Pan Yixin, executive vice chairman of the China Air Transport Association (CATA), said the center aims to strengthen the connectivity of the air route network linking China and ASEAN and promote the coordinated development of aviation-oriented cultural tourism. It will also build platforms for China-ASEAN civil aviation cooperation, hold aviation technology and equipment exhibitions, and develop demonstration areas for civil aviation capacity building, Pan added.
