The event, which starts in October, will be run over legs in Singapore, Mumbai in India, Hong Kong, and Nairobi in Kenya and starts at the end of the year. The race, also called the Greatest Race on Earth, is back after making its debut in 2003-04. This year, it will have a faster field, headed by elite runners from around the world - like Athens Paralympics gold medallist Kenya's Henry Wanyoike. The first leg will take place in Nairobi in October with the final marathon being run in Hong Kong next February. Countries send a team of four athletes to run one marathon each. The race has the largest purse of any marathon in world (US$1.43 million). Viet Nam, who came 12th the first time the event was run, are yet to name their team. UAE to Dport 4,000 Asian Workers after Strikes
Four thousand Asian labourers in Dubai are reportedly facing expulsion after they staged illegal strikes at the weekend over poor wages and working conditions in the booming Gulf city state. Senior labour ministry official Humaid bin Deemas told the Arabic newspaper Emarat Al-Youm on Tuesday that there would be a "deportation of 4,000 labourers who went on strike and committed acts of vandalism. The authorities in the United Arab Emirates took the decision after several thousand manual workers downed tools and reportedly occupied and vandalised a building before attacking police and vehicles with stones on Saturday. Such protests are rare in the UAE, where strike action is outlawed and workers are not allowed to form labour unions. Emarat Al-Youm did not say when the mass deportation would occur. Inbound remittance to hit $9 billion in 2012: WB
Vietnam is forecast to receive $9 billion worth of overseas remittances in 2012, according to the latest report of the World Bank (WB). The country ranks ninth among the world's largest remittance-receiving countries and territories in 2012, said WB Migration and Development report 2012. In the updated report, WB said developing countries will receive a total of $406 billion of remittances this year, up 6.5 percent from last year. Leading the top 10 list of largest remittance receivers is India with $70 billion, followed by China ($66 billion), the Philippines and Mexico ($ 24 billion each), and Nigeria ($21 billion). Vietnam stands behinds Egypt ($18 billion), Pakistan and Bangladesh ($14 billion). The world's last biggest recipient in the top 10 is Lebanon with $7 billion.
