678 land encroachment, illegal construction cases in Vietnam’s Phu Quoc to face investigation
As many as 678 cases of land encroachment and illegal construction in Phu Quoc City off Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam will be subject to police investigation. The Phu Quoc People’s Committee said on Wednesday it had asked the administrations of Ganh Dau and Duong To Communes, as well as relevant agencies, to review these cases and provide documents linked to the cases to the provincial police department in order to aid in the investigation. The department’s investigators previously sent a list of these 678 cases to the Phu Quoc administration, requesting confirmation on whether the locations of these cases were under the management authority of Phu Quoc, which cases had been fined by the city’s administration for land encroachment or illegal construction, and the effect of the fines. 18 Vietnamese, S.Koreans face prosecution in 5-star hotel gambling case
Police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam on Wednesday afternoon announced that they had arrested and initiated legal proceedings against 16 Vietnamese and two South Koreans for organizing gambling at the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel & Spa in Nha Trang City. The defendants included Ngo Van Chuyen, a resident of Nha Trang, Thoong Tau Vay from Dong Nai Province, and Jo Wan Su and Shin Jea Ho, both South Koreans. Police officers determined that these four individuals were the masterminds and leaders of the gambling ring. In addition, 14 other individuals implicated in the case, including cashiers, receptionists, and card dealers, were apprehended. Hanoi installs bollards to prevent illegal parking
Authorities in Hanoi's Thanh Xuan District have just put up nearly 50 bollards on the pavement of Le Trong Tan Street to prevent illegal parking. The move has received support from many local people. A local man, Pham Ba Uyen, 50, said that they now can take a walk easily on the pavement. "This pavement used to be plagued by illegal parking," he said. "Since the bollards were put up two months ago, pedestrians have more space to walk. I find this a very effective measure to prevent illegal encroachment." Chairman of Khuong Mai Ward People's Committee, Mai Tran Xuan Duy, said that all the 47 bollards were movable as they were stuck to the pavement using glue. 3 hospitalized due to botulinum poisoning in Ho Chi Minh City
Three more people in Ho Chi Minh City have been hospitalized due to botulinum poisoning after two of them, who are siblings, ate cha lua (Vietnamese pork sausage) and the remaining man consumed fermented fish kept for a long time. Cho Ray Hospital and Gia Dinh People's Hospital are jointly treating the three cases, Dr. Le Quoc Hung, head of the tropical disease department at the former hospital, said on Saturday. The three patients live in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City. The two siblings, aged 18 and 26, ate bread with cha lua sold by a street vendor, while the remaining patient, a 45-year-old man, downed fermented fish on May 13. They developed the symptoms of digestive disorder, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and diarrhea the next day and became worse later with muscle weakness, dysphagia, and diplopia. During the Food Safety Action Month 2023, from April 15 to May 15, four teams of Hanoi inspectors have strengthened supervision over food security and safety and strictly dealt with organizations, individuals, and enterprises that violate food safety regulations. The Trade Remedies Administration under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has announced that the DOC has prolonged the investigation period to address the issue of trade remedy evasion involving plywood products made with hardwood imported from Viet Nam. The conclusion of the investigation is expected to be published by May 26, 2023. Furthermore, the deadline for issuing final judgments in the anti-trade remedy tax lawsuit concerning solar batteries imported from Viet Nam has been extended.
