A tropical depression in the East Vietnam Sea developed into a storm on Thursday morning, marking the first tropical storm to hit the Southeast Asian country this year. The storm, named Chaba, was located 400 kilometers east of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago at 10:00 am on Thursday, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. The average wind speed was recorded at 62-74km per hour, and gusts were up to 100km an hour. Storm Chaba is expected to travel northwest in the next 48 hours. As of 10:00 am on Saturday, the storm will be situated 120 kilometers northeast of China’s Hainan Island, packing winds at 62-88km per hour. Some 155 Vietnamese athletes to partake in ASEAN Para Games 2022
The ASEAN Para Games 2022 is a qualifier for athletes to win tickets to Paralympic Paris 2024. Some 155 Vietnamese athletes with disabilities will attend the 11th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 2022) in Indonesia next month, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Vietnamese delegation will include one guiding athlete, 18 coaches, two doctors, and 13 support personnel. The rest are Vietnamese parasports athletes who will compete in eight events: track and field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and archery. On July 23, a departure ceremony will be held to see off the Vietnamese delegation at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City. The practice session began at 9:30 a.m. local time amid a light drizzle, according to Pau FC. Hai, the first Vietnamese to play for a professional club in France, and his teammates were present about 10 minutes prior. Despite not being able to speak French yet, Hai greeted his teammates and was met with warm welcome in response. They had a warm-up run for 20 minutes under the instructions of coach Didier Tholot. Outstanding tariff preferences The British Embassy in Vietnam has forecast that Vietnam will save about US$151 million in tariffs from the deal, while the UK stands to save around US$36 million. Although the UKVFTA took effect at a time when the pandemic was ravaging the two countries, bilateral trade still reached US$6.6 billion in the pact’s first year. In fact, 65 percent of all tariffs have already been eliminated from UK-Vietnam trade. In the first six years of the deal, the UK will eliminate 99.2 percent of tariff lines on Vietnam’s imports. This is higher than the terms of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) with 70.3 percent tariff elimination. Non-commissioned Col. Bui Van Nhan posthumously honored with Bravery Order
In detail, decision No.760/QĐ-CTN signed by State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted that Colonel Bui Van Nhien, a non-commissioned officer of the Political Department of Factory Z195 under the General Department of Defense Industry, was posthumously conferred with the Bravery Order for his self-sacrificing act to save a drowning child. Previously, on June 26, while on vacation in Phu Quoc, Kien Giang province, Colonel Nhien heard a call for help as a child was drowning in the waters near the Restaurant Sonasea. Without hesitation, he promptly jumped into the sea to save the victim with the support of rescue staff. Unfortunately, after taking the victim ashore safely, Colonel Nhien showed signs of exhaustion. Although being given first aid, he died on the same day.
