(Photo of Nguyen Thanh Huy) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam 's taekwondo team won one gold, one silver and two bronzes at the ongoing ASEAN University Games in Thailand. The gold went to Pham Quoc Viet, Bui Anh Tuan and Nguyen Quang Tri who topped the men's poomsae (performance) team event. The women's team of Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, Truong Pham Phuong Khanh and Le Thụy Thu Van took the silver. Viet took his second medal with a bronze in the men's poomsae individual event. Duo Tri and Le Tran Kim Uyen secured a bronze in the mixed doubles poomsae. Earlier, the e-sport team finished third in the men's team Arena of Valor event after beating Brunei in the playoff match. FTX Crypto Cup features eight grandmasters including Carlsen (Elo 2,864), Alireza Firouzja (2,778), Levon Aronian (2,775), Anish Giri (2,760), Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2,740), Liem (2,728), Hans Niemann (2,687) and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa (2,661). The first four players are in the world's top 10. Carlsen and Duda qualified for the tournament by default as they are first and second on the overall CCT standing. Aronian and Praggnanandhaa made it to the finals of the most recent two regular CCT tournaments (Chessable Masters and FTX Road to Miami), qualifying them for FTX Crypto Cup. Organizers also gave two invitation slots to Liem and Giri, who are fourth and fifth on the CCT standing. World Cup winner to coach Vietnamese national futsal team
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced Diego Raul Giustozzi, a futsal World Cup winning coach, as the new head coach of the Vietnamese national futsal team at a ceremony held on August 9 in Hanoi. Diego Raul Giustozzi, a futsal World Cup winning coach, (third from left) is appointed as the new head coach of the Vietnamese national futsal team. Giustozzi, 44, is a former futsal player for Argentina who began a professional coaching career in the sport in 2013. His most notable success was leading Argentina to victory at the 2016 Futsal World Cup in Colombia after beating Russia 5-4 in the final. Coincidently, Vietnam first competed in the finals of the 2016 Futsal World Cup in Colombia where they made it to the quarter-final stage. Vietnam lose to Australia in U18 Women’s AFF Championship final
Vietnam head coach Akira Ijiri chose the 5-4-1 formation for Vietnam to limit the attacks from the flanks from Australia, whose players are physically superior and stronger in aerial duels. Vietnam got the first chance in the 23rd minute when Pham Hai Yen made a long-range shot but could not beat the Australia keeper. When the game was going well for Vietnam, their defense made a mistake in an aerial duel and Sienna Saveska tapped it in to break the tie for Australia. Eight minutes into the second half, the Vietnam defenders repeated their mistake and let Mary Stanic-Floody have enough time to control the ball before finishing cleanly to defeat keeper Nguyen Phuong Thao. After that, Vietnam lost their composure in the attacks and their stamina gradually ran out, while Australia intentionally slowed down to protect their lead.
