Student volunteers experience memorable trips to epidemic hotspots

At 9 am, an ambulance left Field Hospital No 1 in Hai Duong province, carrying a group of students to a site in Chi Linh City where they needed to take samples for tests for SARS-nCov-2. Linh and her teammates The group had eight members, including two workers from the Chi Linh City Medical Center and six students from the Hai Duong Medical Technical University. Dieu Linh and her friends in the group were all born in 2001. They are second-year students majoring in medical testing. Inside the cramped ambulance, which was riding on a rough road, the students took advantage of time to repeat their professional knowledge and help each other wear protective clothing correctly. “It is necessary to press adhesive tape tightly on all holes to prevent virus intrusion,” Linh said. Fifteen minutes later, the ambulance stopped at a factory in Chi Linh City. Linh and her teammates had to take 360 medical samples for testing. There were many people lining up to have their samples taken. The students re-arranged materials, divided into two groups, and set to work under the instruction of officers from the Chi Linh Medical Center. Linh and her teammates attended a training course on January 28, when Covid-19 broke out in Hai Duong. They belonged to a backup group, as third- and fourth-year students were mobilized first. After the training course, some of them took a bus to home villages to spend Tet holiday with their families. But just one day later, they were informed that second-year students were also needed to help because the number of infection cases had increased very rapidly. At the time of receiving the news, Huy Hoang, a member of the group, had just returned home in the central province of Nghe An for nearly two hours and his luggage had not been unpacked. Vietnam remains selective in attracting FDI projects

The Hanoitimes - This is the right time for Vietnam to adopt a selective approach in attracting FDI inflows to better meet its needs, said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh. Vietnam remains selective in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) projects, with efficiency, use of advanced technology and environment-friendliness being the main criteria, according to Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh. Priorities would be given to projects using new and green technologies, with high added value, modern corporate governance, high spillover effects, ensuring technology transfer and being integrated with global supply and production chains, Minh said at a meeting of the government’s task force specialized in FDI attraction on July 23. According to Minh, who heads the task force, Vietnam has been widely seen as an attractive investment destination, mainly thanks to its existing competitive advantages, strong reform efforts, and effective anti-Covid-19 measures. Minh said this is the right time for Vietnam to adopt a selective approach in attracting FDI inflows to better meet its needs. For the remaining months of 2020, the task force would focus on three main activities which are promoting investment activities; proposing new policies for investment; and disseminating the image of Vietnam and its business environment. FDI commitments to Vietnam down 14% to nearly US$20 billion in Jan-Aug

The Hanoitimes - Year to August 20, 1,797 new projects have been approved with total registered capital of US$9.73 billion, up 6.6% in capital and down 25.3% in the number of project year-on-year. FDI commitments in the January – August period totaled US$19.54 billion, down 13.7% year-on-year, a report of the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment has shown. Year to August 20, 1 ,797 new projects have been approved with total registered capital of US$9 .73 billion, up 6.6 % in capital and down 25.3% in the number of projects year-on-year. Furthermore, 718 existing projects have been injected an additional US$4. 8 7 billion, up 22.2 % in capital but down 20.9% in the number of projects . A n increase in fresh FDI commitments in the eight -month period was thanks to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant project worth US$4 billion in the southern province of Bac Lieu , accounting for 41.1% of newly registered FDI . Meanwhile, injections of US$1.38 billion in the Petrochemical Complex project in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province (Long Son Petrochemical) and US$774 million in the West Lake Urban project have directly contributed to higher capital committed for existing projects. During this period, 4, 804 projects have had nearly US$4. 93 billion in capital contributed by foreign investors, down 8.2 % in the number of projects and 4 7 . 2 % in value year-on-year. Investors have poured money into 18 fields and sectors, in which manufacturing and processing led the pack with investment capital of over US$ 9 . 3 billion, accounting for 47. 7 % of total registered capital.
