Novaland negotiating interest payment default on $300M bonds, investors antsy
The Ad Hoc Group, representing investors owning over 75% of the bonds, said it would take a new approach should Novaland fail to negotiate the debt restructuring in good faith. Novaland issued the bonds in Singapore in 2021 for five years with a coupon rate of 5.25% and listed it on the stock exchange there. Novaland said it had discussed with the bondholders its liquidity difficulties which prevented it from paying the interest in time and a restructuring plan based on its current situation. It has also drafted plans to restore operations together with foreign and domestic consultancies such as Deloitte, Sidney Austin LLP, and YKVN. JAKARTA/HANOI -- Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) discussions on the early retirement of coal-fired power plants in Indonesia may have hit a snag as a local official said on Monday that western countries are not ready to finance such projects. JETP, a financing scheme made up of equity investments, grants and concessionary loans from members of Group of Seven (G7), multilateral banks and private lenders, is aimed at helping developing nations accelerate their shift towards cleaner energy sources in the power sector and cut reliance on dirty fuel such as coal. South Africa was the first country to reach a deal under the JETP, securing a $8.5 billion financing pledge in 2021.
