Vietnam is one of the four countries from which Finland is aiming to attract high-skilled personnel through a talent-seeking program that has been introduced in Ho Chi Minh City. The Commercial Section of the Finnish Embassy in Vietnam held a conference on Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City to debut the Talent Boost program, which helps seek high-quality human resources from Vietnam, as well as from Brazil, Turkey, and India. The program was presented by a Finnish delegation involved in education and work, including Laura Lindeman, senior director and head of work in the Finland Unit at Business Finland, a government organization for innovation funding and trade, travel and investment promotion. Under the program, Finland attracts talents from students to professionals such as doctors, nurses, information technology and clean engineers, and start-up entrepreneurs, Lindeman said. Vietnam rice price on top of the world
In the first two months this year Vietnam’s average rice price was over $519 per ton. Since August last year, it has exceeded Thai prices by $15-27 and prices from India by $40-50. Although Vietnamese export volumes dropped 20.9% year-on-year to $400,000 tons in January, prices rose 7% over the period. Last year rice exports from Vietnam reached a 10-year high of 7.1 million tons. The country plans to export 6.6 million tons of rice this year, with 4.12 million tons in total scheduled to be delivered by the end of the first six months. Favorable export conditions are expected to return this year thanks to a resumption in demand from Indonesia and Bangladesh. Buyers will increasingly turn to Vietnam for rice as India has banned the export of broken rice and put a 20% tax on white rice. Photo: Giang Lam Vietnam's export price of 5% broken rice has been the highest in the world for several months since August 2022, surpassing Thailand's by US$15-27 per ton and India's by US$40-50 per ton, according to a report by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). Last year, Vietnam's rice export volume reached a 10-year high of 7.1 million tons. Despite a more than 20 percent drop in export volume in the first month of 2023, the upward trend in rice export prices continued, averaging more than $519 per ton in the first two months of the year.
