(Photo: VNSC) Hanoi (VNA) – Potential plans and roadmaps were proposed to build national capacity in Earth observation using small satellite systems during a seminar held by the Vietnam National Space Centre (VNSC) at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in Hanoi on June 30. In his remarks, VNSC General Director Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Anh Tuan said the Government in February 2021 announced a strategy for the development and application of aerospace science and technology by 2030, aiming to utilise achievements in the fields to address defence and security issues, strengthen management of environment and natural resources, monitor natural disasters and minimise their impacts, and provide related services for people. Storm Chaba poses no more danger to Vietnam’s northeast as it makes landfall
It made landfall along the coast of Maoming City in China's Guangdong Province at around 3 p.m. Saturday, Chinese newspapers reported. At 4 p.m. it lay centered around 320 kilometers to the east of Quang Ninh Province, home to Ha Long Bay, with a maximum wind speed of 117 kph, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. It will move northwest at a speed of 10-15 kph and is expected to weak into a tropical depression by Sunday morning with winds decreasing to 61 kph. Vietnam’s northeastern region should expect rains of 40-80 mm, and more than 100 mm in some places, between Saturday evening and Sunday. A day earlier weather experts had expected the region to be hit by torrential downpours of up to 150-350 mm a day. Rainfall of 180 mm a day is considered heavy. Nearly 1,000 children take free swimming lessons in south-central Vietnam
A free swimming course sponsored by a local man has benefited about 1,000 children from seven to 15 years old in Phan Rang-Thap Cham City under the south-central Vietnamese province of Ninh Thuan. Le Nguyen Le Vi, a resident of the city, is the sponsor of the swimming program, which has taken place at the swimming pool of Hoa Sen Ninh Thuan Kindergarten - Elementary School from Monday to Friday every week. Children participating in the course are taught basic skills, such as swimming on their stomach, breaststroke, breathing underwater, and saving themselves from drowning. More than 2,000 children aged under 16 years in Vietnam lose their lives every year due to drowning, the World Health Organization cited an estimate in 2020. In mid-June, Van Anh and her family of four took a summer holiday in Da Nang, famous as the country’s most livable city, but they felt that the trip was made boring because they had nothing to do in the evening. "Besides swimming, eating out and visiting Ba Na Hills, I realized that Da Nang has very few services for tourists, especially in the evening. After eating, we come back to the hotel and there are no more night-time activities," she said. Thu Huong, another tourist from Hanoi, also spent a night in Da Nang last month and watched a fire breathing act on the iconic Dragon Bridge at night. She said she didn’t know what else she could do. FLC Group names new chairman
Shareholders voted for him to replace Dang Tat Thang, who was appointed in March after his predecessor Trinh Van Quyet was arrested for allegedly manipulating the stock market. Thang now serves as vice president of the company. Nguyen, brother-in-law of Quyet, has more than 17 years of experience in doing business and used to hold leading positions in many businesses. He was also a member of the board of directors of FLC Group from 2013 to October 2017 and from June 2018 to June 2020. FLC said it would focus on restructuring its management model and business plans this year. Several of its key leaders have been detained amid an investigation into possible stock market fraud that caused "serious damage to investors and affected the operations of Vietnam's stock exchange," according to the Ministry of Public Security. The event was held by PepsiCo Vietnam , the Centre of Education and Development (CED), and the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Commerce (VCCI) - Da Nang branch. It was part of the “Increase awareness in plastic waste management” project funded by PepsiCo Foundation through Give2Asia and implemented by CED in collaboration with partners in Vietnam from January 2020 to December 2022.
