Last year’s growth was more than 7% and this year is expected to exceed 7%. Vietnam has achieved the GDP growth target set for the entire period. Inflation has been under control and the public debt ratio has been decreasing. But growth has been heavily dependent on capital. The support industry has grown slowly. The contribution of services with high added value has remained low. Logistics costs are high. Exports depend on foreign-invested enterprises. The five-year, $21.7 million USAID Trade Facilitation Program aims to support the Government of Vietnam to adopt and implement a risk management approach to customs and specialized inspection agencies, which will strengthen the implementation of the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement of which both Vietnam and the United States are members. The NA Chairwoman was welcomed at Kazan airport by Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Khayrullovich Mukhametshin, Deputy Chairperson of the State Council of Tatarstan Tatyana Larionova, among others. Scrap imports choke Ho Chi Minh City ports
Containers loaded with scrap from around the world are increasingly converging on Vietnam after China began banning the importation of such items An increasingly larger quantity of imported scrap has overloaded several seaports in Ho Chi Minh City, which has become an ‘alternative destination’ for the waste dumping after China ceased buying it earlier this year. Within the first two weeks of May alone, 7,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of overseas scrap paper and plastic were unloaded at the Cat Lai Terminal, 2,000 more TEUs against the beginning of the month. (1 TEU = a 39-cubic-meter container) Located in District 2, Cat Lai is one of the key and modern international shipping terminals in southern Vietnam. PM: Efforts to assist people affected by Formosa incident pay off
The government leader made the remarks while chairing a national conference in Quang Tri province on May 17 to review the performance of the steering committee for solutions to stabilise lives, production and business of affected people after the incident. Officials have gained more experiences following the incident, PM Phuc said while lauding Ha Tinh province’s determination to bring the case on wrongdoings in compensating and supporting the affected fishermen to the court. The leader attributed such outcomes to contributions of scientists, members of the steering committee, leaders and the political system at commune-, district- and provincial levels, army and police forces, and public support. He highlighted the publicity, transparency, democracy, accuracy and close supervision in the work.
