Korean choreographer to revive Vietnam history on stage Kieu Giang By Kieu Giang - The Saigon Times Daily “Promise to 800”, or 800 nam hen uoc in Vietnamese, a dance show arranged by Korean choreographer Chun Yoo Oh, will take place at the Opera House in District 1, HCMC on December 1 and at Au Co Theater in Hanoi on December 4. The show tells a story about the last prince of the Ly dynasty of Vietnam, Ly Long Tuong, who was on a boat trip with his relatives to escape extermination after a coup d’etat and took refuge in the kingdom of Goryeo (present-day Korea) in 1226. With his great courage and mind, he helped people in the kingdom fight the Mongolian army. Ly Long Tuong was appointed as general and his children were also high-ranking mandarins to manage huge lands. After nearly 800 years, there have been around 2,000 descendants of the Ly dynasty living in Korea. A tender memoir evoking interest in history
Vietnamese-French writer Bùi Thị Hồng Vân (pen name Nuage Rose) revived memories of wartime and evoked interest in Việt Nam’s history among young people with her book, Trois Nuage au Pays des Nenuphars (Three Clouds in the Country of Nenuphars). The book won the Most Favourite title from the French Writers Association and was introduced at book fairs in Belgium, France and Switzerland. It was recently published in Vietnamese. The book tells the story of a small girl who had to be evacuated from Hà Nội during the American air war against North Việt Nam. Her book restores the fragrance of villages and colours of memories with a softness and tenderness that contrasts with the violence and madness of war.
