Skyrocketing jet fuel prices have pushed airlines into difficulties as fuel costs accounted for 40-50 per cent of operating costs. — VNA/VNS Photo Vietnamese airlines are suffering losses amounting to hundreds of billions of dong each month due to a surge in fuel prices, according to the director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) Dinh Viet Thang. At a conference of the transport ministry reviewing its work in the first half of the year earlier this week, Thang said that fuel costs accounted for 40-50 per cent of operation costs, and revenue increases were insufficient to compensate for high fuel prices. He said domestic aviation transport had recovered with higher growth than in the pre-pandemic period. Vietnam transport ministry requires rectification following thousands of flight delays
The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has requested that airlines improve their punctuality after more than 5,600 flights were delayed in June. Vietnamese airlines operated 30,808 flights between May 19 and June 18, a jump of 528.7 percent and 18 percent compared to the same period in 2021 and last month, respectively, according to statistics of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). During this period, the overall punctuality of the entire industry was 81.8 percent, with only 25,206 flights taking off on time, down 15.9 percentage points and 9.4 percentage percentage points compared to the same period last year and in May, respectively. As many as 5,602 flights were delayed, about 18.2 percent, an increase of 15.9 percentage points and 9.4 percentage points year on year and from last month’s figure, respectively. Luu Dinh Phuc, head of the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Communications and Information, said international social networks have committed to the ministry in preventing the spread of toxic information and removing it. However, "several foreign companies providing services in Vietnam still avoid preventing toxic information in Vietnam, especially Facebook," he told a seminar reviewing activities in the information field in the first six months held Thursday in Ho Chi Minh City. "The act of spreading fake and toxic news mostly occurs on social media platforms, especially international ones.
