UK investors eye renewable energy in Vietnam

A wind farm in Binh Thuan province (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Investors from the UK were showing significant interest in investing in renewable energy projects in Vietnam, especially wind power, expecting the Vietnamese Government to introduce long-term support policies as well as simplification of procedures for project implementation. British Ambassador to Vietnam Gareth Ward said at the UK – Vietnam Renewable Energy Dialogue on Wednesday that clean energy was becoming a global trend, adding that every 1 investment USD in clean energy would help generate from 3-8 USD. The Vietnamese Government in 2015 approved the renewable energy development strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050 which aimed to increase the percentage of renewable power from 35 percent in 2015 to 38 percent in 2020 and 43 percent in 2050. The Government also introduced incentive policies to encourage the development of wind power , biomass energy, energy from waste and solar power. Hoang Tien Dung, Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, said developing renewable energy was important in the context that sources for hydropower were being exhausted, thermopower was limited due to commitments to global climate change and gas-fired power had high production costs. The potential for off-shore wind power was estimated at 158GW. Off-shore power was attracting increasing interest from foreign organisations and investors, Nguyen Ninh Hai, Head of the Renewable Energy Department under the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, said. Hai said that as off-shore wind power was a new thing to Vietnam, the Ministry of Industry and Trade was cooperating with some research …

Indian newspaper publishers demand greater revenue share from Google

In a letter written to Google on Thursday, INS president L. Adimoolam said the newspaper publishers were facing a very "opaque" advertising system as they had no access to Google's advertising value chain. The INS chief urged Google to compensate the Indian newspapers for using their news content and adequately share the advertising revenue. The INS, a conglomerate of all the major newspapers published from across India, represents the print media in the country. In his letter, the INS chief also stated that Google should pay to newspaper publishers for the news which is generated through "quality journalism" with credible current affairs, analysis, information and entertainment. This follows the recent developments in several countries, including Australia and France, where newspapers publishers have raised the issue of fair payment for content, pressing Google for revenue sharing. …

HCM City keeps shutdown of certain services in place

The municipal People’s Committee has ordered continued closure of dance halls, bars, karaoke parlours, pubs, beer clubs, and facilities for indoor sports activities like gym, fitness, billiards, and yoga centres. Others not included in this list can be reopened but have to carry out all anti-coronavirus measures regulated by health authorities. Besides, the set of safety assessment criteria in COVID-19 prevention and control must be seriously implemented in the fields of tourism, transport, and restaurant services, as well as at wholesale and retail markets, supermarkets, trade centres, relic sites, and libraries. A distance of at least one metre from each other must be kept in those activities, and food service supplying establishments are not permitted to serve more than 30 people at the same time, according to the administration. Meanwhile, religious activities and rituals at local places of worship can take place with no more than 50 participants at the same time. They also have to comply with other disease prevention measures regulated by the health sector, the People’s Committee said. Earlier, the committee also permitted schools across the city to be reopened from March 1. On February 23, the lockdown on an apartment block in Ward 13 of Tan Binh district was lifted. This was the last of the 35 sealed-off sites that had their COVID-19 lockdown removed in HCM City. Source: VNA …
