VietNamNet Bridge - Considered a country with great potential for solar and wind power, Vietnam continues to be one of the 12 ‘hotspots’ in the globe for coal-fired power development. Vietnam has great potentials to develop clean energy The global coal-fired power plant monitoring system’s updates on March 22 showed that the indicators in thermal power capacity, including the planning, construction and completion phases, continued declining significantly in 2017. It is expected that by 2022, the number of old plants to be shut down would be higher than the number of plants to become operational. This will be the beginning of the period of coal-fired power development decline. In India, the renewable power price has decreased by 50 percent in the last two years because of higher capacity. Because of financing problems, there is no electricity sale contract for 16 GW of coal-fired power, while 17 GW has been frozen at construction sites. An average of nine projects in power generation and distribution were registered every month since June 2017, according to the Vietnam Renewable Energy Report 2018. The report was released by the financial and business information corporation, Stoxplus. The registration of projects followed the Vietnamese government’s approval of the price of 9.35 US cents per kilo-watt hour Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for solar projects. According to Stoxplus, foreign and local investors are excited about renewable energy in Vietnam, which is expected to grow at 23.2 per cent annually during 2020-30. StoxPlus has identified 245 renewable energy projects in Vietnam at the moment, including wind and solar power as well as biomass electricity, which are being deployed at different stages. If all these projects begin operation, the total capacity of the country’s renewable energy should reach 23.2GW, which is nearly 10 times higher than the target of 2.65GW by 2020 as indicated in the Revised … [Read more...] about Renewable energy projects up in 10 months
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday promised to open the country's economy further and lower import tariffs on products including cars, in a speech seen as conciliatory amid rising trade tensions between China and the United States. While most of the pledges were reiterations of previously announced measures, Xi's comments sent U.S. stock futures, the dollar and Asian shares higher. Xi said that China will sharply widen market access for foreign investors, a chief complaint of the country's trading partners and a point of contention for U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, which has threatened billions of dollars in tariffs on Chinese goods. The speech at the Boao Forum for Asia in the southern province of Hainan had been widely anticipated as one of Xi's first major addresses in a year in which the ruling Communist Party marks the 40th anniversary of its landmark economic reforms andopening up under former leader Deng Xiaoping. Xi said China would raise the foreign … [Read more...] about China’s Xi renews pledges to open economy, cut tariffs this year
