An idea put forward 40 years ago has again been put into discussion: using water from the Red River to clean the polluted To Lich River. Hanoi authorities organized a meeting recently to consult with experts on the project to pump water from Red River into To Lich River to dilute To Lich’s water, and clean up the pollution. It is estimated that 134,000 cubic meters of water will be pumped every day for 26 days a month. The project is estimated to cost VND150 billion. Under the project, water will be pumped from the Red River to the West Lake, and when the water at the West Lake reaches a certain level, outlets will be opened to lead water from the West Lake to To Lich River. Since issuing corporate bonds has become easy thanks to open regulations, it is necessary to tighten control over bond issuance. According to Saigon Securities Incorporated (SSI), VND129.016 trillion worth of corporate bonds were offered to sell in the first eight months of the year and 90.08 percent was sold. VND22.664 trillion, or 61 percent of bonds, were sold to domestic investors. However, it’s unclear who the ‘domestic investors’ are. Meanwhile, bonds cannot sell to individual investors who don’t have deep knowledge about the market. People donate blood in HCM City. — VNS Photo Thu Hằng HCM CITY — The HCM City chapter of the Việt Nam Red Cross Society yesterday (Nov 19) began a blood donation campaign to meet the expected spike in the requirement for blood during the year-end holidays. The month-long campaign expects to receive 60,000 units from voluntary donors, said Trần Trường Sơn, its chairman said. Since the beginning of this year the Red Cross’ HCM City Blood Donation Centre has collected 302,888 units of blood, or 91 per cent of this year’s target. More than 260,000 people donated blood. Tết (Lunar New Year) holidays as the number of emergency situations increases sharply and nobody donates blood.
