South (TEDI South) – a design company under the transport ministry, has proposed a plan for building a new express railway line linking HCMC and Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta.TThe US$4-billion project is part of a master plan of national railway development until 2020 and toward 2050 which has been approved by the Government. The railway is being designed by TEDI South with the assistance of Korea’s Chungsuk Engineering.Nguyen Kim Lang, deputy general director of TEDI South, said the transportation demand between HCMC and the Mekong Delta region would increase many times in coming years. Feasibility studies launched on rejected high-speed railway project
Japan will support Vietnam in conducting feasibility studies on two sections of a high-speed railway project that was recently rejected by lawmakers, Vietnamnet reported Monday. A delegation from Japan is working with Vietnam's Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Railways on an agreement, the news website quoted a leader from Vietnam Railways as saying. It was expected that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will also work with the ministry on it Tuesday, according to Vietnamnet. Do Van Hat, director general of Vietnam Railways' Traffic - Transport Construction and Investment Consultancy Company, said that under the government's approval, the ministry had previously written to the Japanese government, asking for financial and technical support for the feasibility studies. Vietnam to reconsider high-speed railway project in 3 years
The government will consider submitting a high-speed railway project to the National Assembly again in three years, after it was rejected last year, a minister said last week. Investors sought for 1.2 billion USD urban railway project
The private sector is being encouraged to pour investment into Hanoi’s estimated 1.2 billion USD urban railway No. 5 in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT). The government made the call for investment at a seminar held in the capital city on Nov. 7 by the Vietnam Railway Department and the consultant joint venture between the Transport Investment and Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company (TRICC) of Vietnam and the Dongrim-Hyewonkaci from the Republic of Korea. This is the first large-scale complex railway project that will be carried out under the state-private partnership. Vietnam Railway’s Department Director Vu Xuan Hong told the participants that the country’s railway laws permit all investors both at home and abroad to invest in railway infrastructure, and exploit railway transport services.
