Lien Chieu Port will be capable of handling 3.5 – 5 million tonnes of cargo annually in the first phase. It can accommodate vessels of up to 100,000 tonnes and container ships of up to 8,000 TEU. The new port will be of the world class and offer a new engine for the development of Da Nang and Vietnam at large. Insiders said the project can provide 5,000 jobs and contribute up to 80 million USD to the city's coffer, equivalent to around 2.1 percent of Da Nang’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), by 2030. The Soc Son District court sentenced Nguyen Van Cuong, 40, to 10 years in prison on Tuesday after finding him guilty of "robbery" and "arresting people illegally." On the same charges, the court sentenced Nguyen Tuan Anh, 21, to seven years, while two other defendants, Duong Van Quy, 27, and Duong Van Cuong, 28, received nine years each. According to the verdict, around 0:22 a.m. on Jul. 11, 2018, Dao Cong Thanh, 56, and four others took two boats to a section of the Cau River in Trung Gia Commune of Soc Son District to mine sand illegally. The boats were anchored around 30m from the bank, next to a farm owned by Cuong. On learning about the sand mining, he mobilized Anh, Quy and Cuong to join him in chasing the sand thieves away. Q2 GDP growth highest since 2011
The growth rate helps bring Vietnam’s economic growth in the first six months to 6.42 percent, the highest in three years. Last year, the first-half expansion rate was 5.74 percent. Manufacturing and processing in the first six months expanded by nearly 9.7 percent. Industry and construction expanded by 7.7 percent, while the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors saw growth of 2.78 percent. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in the first six months surged in some key sectors, like garment (23 percent), electric equipment manufacturing (22 percent), and medicines production (17.5 percent). Sixty-one out of 63 localities in the country posted IIP growth, except for the provinces of Ha Tinh and Tra Vinh where the energy production sector posted a decline. EU trade deal offers opportunities to increase exports
A historic agreement The European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) started negotiations for a region-to-region free trade agreement in 2007. After negotiations were suspended in 2009, the EU decided to pursue bilateral trade agreements with the individual ASEAN member states. Negotiations between the EU and Vietnam on a free trade agreement were launched in 2010. Following the completion of technical discussions, talks were finalized in December 2015. In February 2016, the full text of the EVFTA was published. However, the official signing of the trade deal was delayed due to the pending judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on jurisdiction for the conclusion of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.
