Authorities in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam will spend VND210 billion (US$9 million) building an emergency embankment to deal with severe coastal erosion. The Quang Nam People's Committee announced its decision to build an emergency anti-erosion embankment at Cua Dai Beach, Hoi An City on Tuesday. The project aims to prevent coastal erosion and regenerate the beach along Cua Dai coastline. In addition, it will reduce damage caused by natural disasters and climate change, and create a driving force for local socio-economic recovery and development. The project includes the construction of an underground dike system with a length of about 550 meters to cushion the impact of waves. It will also regenerate a 1,450-meter beach. Vietnam authority identifies 90,000 cases of trade fraud in 2019
In 2019, the authorities were able to handle major cases of smuggling and selling of counterfeit products, a fact that was not possible in the past. The Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) identified 90,000 cases of trade fraud and smuggling, and issued nearly VND670 billion (US$28.96 million) in fines in 2019, up 7,700 cases and VND180 billion (US$7.78 million) in fines year-on-year, the governmental portal reported. Van Don Airport to pilot facial recognition tech for passengers
The high-tech measure is expected to improve the airport's operational efficiency and the detection of aviation violations. Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh is to pilot facial recognition (biometric authentication) for passengers at the check-in counter, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). After Cat Bi International Airport in the northern city of Haiphong, this is the second airport in the country to pilot this advanced facial recognition technology. Travelers using chip-based citizen ID cards must go through a facial recognition system at the security check.
