Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has signed a Resolution covering solutions to encourage and foster investment in sustainable and safe development of agriculture. The Government plans to increase the number of enterprises effectively investing in agriculture to 80,000-100,000 by 2030. Of the total, around 3,000-4,000 are large-scale businesses, the Resolution reads. The Government also sets the goals to maintain growth rate of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture at 3% annually meanwhile the export value of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture is expected to increase by 6%-8% annually. Under the Government’s Decree No.143/2018/ND-CP, which took effect from December 1, 2018, employees who are foreign citizens working in Vietnam with either a work permit, practice certificate, or practice licence granted by Vietnamese authorities and under unfixed-term labour contracts or contracts with a term of full one year and above will be covered by compulsory social insurance. Similar to Vietnamese employees, the social insurance scheme for foreigners will cover sickness, maternity, occupational diseases and accidents, retirement, and survivor benefits. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged local authorities of southern Kien Giang province to accelerate a plan to turn Phu Quoc, the largest island of Vietnam, into a big tourism centre. At his working session with Kien Giang authorities on November 22, PM Dung said the master plan to develop the island by 2010 and towards 2020 is going at a slow pace after four years of implementation, and thus failing to tap its potential. He asked the Ministry of Construction to coordinate with Kien Giang province to hire foreign experts for the implementation of infrastructure plans. He urged relevant ministries to focus on constructing main roads, completing Phu Quoc International Airport and An Thoi seaport on schedule and opening more international air routes to the island.
