Embassy of India marks 70th anniversary of India Constitution adoption

The Hanoitimes - The Constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949 and came into effect from January 26, 1950 when India became a sovereign republic. The Embassy of India in Hanoi has celebrated the Constitution Day of India at the embassy to commemorate the 70th years of adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly. Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) The event marked the attendance of the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma , officials and staff of the embassy, representatives of the Vietnam Institute of Indian and Southwest Asian Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, among others. The Constitution of India was adopted on November 26, 1949 and came into effect from January 26, 1950 when India became a sovereign republic. In 2015, the Government of India announced to commemorate this day every year as the Constitution Day to pay tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly for their seminal role in the framing of the Indian Constitution. In his remark, Ambassador Pranay Verma highlighted the importance of the Constitution in India’s development journey as an independent country and its transformation into a strong and modern nation. He also recalled the sacrifices and determination of the founding fathers of India as well as their hard work in drafting the longest constitution of an independent nation. At the event, the screening of two documentaries on the Indian Constitution “Making of Indian Constitution”, and “Spirit of Freedom” also helped visitors gain an insight of the founding, the development of a country as well as the significant role of the Indian Constitution to the nation and people of India. A photo exhibition on the Indian Constitution throughout the history was also held on this occasion. Vietnam: potential market for India pharmaceuticals

The Hanoitimes - Vietnam is currently among top 25 destinations for Indian pharmaceutical products. The US$7-billion pharmaceutical market of Vietnam is a promising consumer of India which is known as the “Pharmacy of the World”. India  - "the Pharma of the World". Source: Embassy of India, Dublin Vietnam’s pharmaceuticals demand is expected to grow 8% annually till 2024. While Vietnamese drug manufacturers are able to meet half of their domestic demand, they depend on imports for approximately 60% of pharmaceutical end products, 90% of active pharmaceutical ingredients and most of the raw materials for the production of pharmaceuticals. India is the largest producer of generic drugs, supplying more than 60% of global demand for various vaccines. Over 80% of the antiretroviral drugs used globally to combat HIV-AIDS are manufactured by Indian pharmaceutical firms. The total size of the industry was estimated at around US$43 billion in 2019-2020 and is likely to reach US$55 billion in 2022. India has the advantage of a large raw material base, skilled workforce and increasing investment in research and development, that has enabled India to become a manufacturer of world-class medicines for its domestic consumption as well as overseas market. Touching upon the importance of the pharmaceutical sector in trade and healthcare partnership between India and Vietnam, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma urged businesses and all other stakeholders on both sides to explore new opportunities for promoting engagement in pharmaceutical sector. Vietnam repatriates citizens from India amid tightened lockdown

The Hanoitimes - Many Vietnamese people traveled thousands of kilometers from different parts of India to gather in New Delhi for the repatriation flight. Nearly 340 Vietnamese nationals were brought home on May 20 from India, the first ones repatriated from one of the countries with the toughest lockdown measures. Photo: Embassy of Vietnam in India The repatriation flight took place as India is struggling with the rising infections of coronavirus that hit more than 112,000. To make the flight possible, the Embassy of Vietnam in India had cooperated with different agencies to get travelling permits amid tightened lockdown throughout India. Photo: Vietnam Airlines Vietnamese Ambassador to India Pham Sanh Chau told Zing that the embassy had to hire three domestic flights to gather Vietnamese nationals at New Delhi for the repatriation flight. He said the passengers had come from three flights and 66 coaches from 15 states across India before reaching New Delhi. All passengers and crewmembers wear personal protective equipment. Photo: Vietnam Airlines The passengers who are children under 18, the elderly, the sick, pregnant women, students whose dormitories closed, monks and nuns, Buddhist followers attending meditation courses, stranded visitors, workers of expired visa, and people on temporary mission.
