The event was organised by the People’s Security Academy and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) with support from the Canadian Government. Canada to review duty taxes on Viet Nam’s corrosion-resistant steel
Inside a warehouse of JFE Shoji Steel Hai Phong Company in Hai Phong Province. — VNA/VNS Photo Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) updated the timeline for auditing the anti-dumping tax on corrosion-resistant steel (COR) of Viet Nam and Turkey, according to the Trade Remedies Authorities of Vietnam. Particularly, CBSA will stop gathering information on June 15, and the parties will submit their arguments on June 22. The deadline for submitting information is June 29, and CBSA will announce the result on July 17. Previously, CBSA proposed anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations against COR steel imported from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Viet Nam in November 2019. Viet Nam’s anti-dumping tax rate is ranging from 2.3 per cent to 71.1 per cent and is not subject to anti-subsidy tax because the subsidy level is only from 0.1 per cent to 0.2 per cent. Dak Lak’s border guard force builds house for needy officer
Non-commissioned Captain Y Tiet Eban is a needy staff of the Border Post of Dak Rue Border Gate. The house was built on an area of 100 sq.m with a total investment of VND 200 million, of which the provincial border guard command donated VND 80 million, and the rest came from Y Tiet Eban’s family. The provincial border guard command’s funding was donated by its cadres and youths through the “100 VND house” program. Y Tiet Eban’s family faced numerous difficulties since his wife’s job is not stable, while his children are regularly sick. Together with assistance to build the house, troops of the Border Post of Dak Rue Border Gate donated VND 25 million to the serviceman’s family. Up to 88,000 businesses in Viet Nam withdraw from market
A steel factory in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. — VNA/VNS Photo Hoang Nhi As many as 88,000 enterprises in Viet Nam have withdrawn from the market in the first five months of this year, up 22.6 per cent year-on-year, said the General Statistics Office (GSO). Of the sum, 55,200 enterprises temporarily ceased operations, up 20.3 per cent against the last year's same period. Another 25,500 were in the dissolution process, a yearly rise of 34 per cent and 7,300 completed dissolution procedures, up 6.5 per cent year-on-year. On average, 17,600 businesses withdraw from the market every month, the GSO said. From January to May, over 61,900 new enterprises were formed with a total registered capital of VND568.7 trillion, down 2 per cent in the number of firms and 25.3 per cent in capital from the same period last year. In Vietnam, woman jailed after threatening to kiss traffic policeman till her death
A court in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam sentenced a 44-year-old local woman to a combined 20 months in prison on Tuesday after threatening to kiss a traffic policeman until her death. Nguyen Thi Ngan, a 44-year-old native of Thanh Hoa’s Ba Thuoc District, was found guilty of “resisting officers on duty” by various actions, including threatening to kiss a traffic policeman till her death, and “intentionally causing injuries to other people.” As per the indictment by the People’s Procuracy of Ba Thuoc, when Captain Bui Tuan Quy was filing a violation record on National Highway 217 at around 11:20 am on February 16 during the performance of his duty with a team of six officers, Ngan approached him, requesting a waiver for her daughter-in-law’s violation on failing to wear a crash helmet. HCMC cops snatch phone snatchers in high-speed chase
Nguyen Cong Thuan, 27, and Duong Le Tuyen Tai, 28, were both arrested on Monday. It all began when officers received reports of a phone-snatching on Nhat Tao Street in District 10 on May 19. After analyzing nearby camera footage, investigators were able to identify the suspects via their license plate numbers. When special forces found Thuan and Tai riding two motorbikes in Hoc Mon District, the pair was exhibiting signs of looking for potential victims. Officers from the special forces stopped the two men for questioning. Tai was apprehended while Thuan tried to escape on his motorbike. A high-speed chase ensued throughout Hoc Mon. Truck rams through traffic light, killing one
At around 7 p.m., numerous vehicles were stopped at a traffic light at the Thuan An Hoa-My Phuoc-Tan Van intersection in Thuan Giao Ward. A truck then came from behind and rammed into the rows of vehicles. Three motorbikes were heavily damaged by the impact. A 20-year-old man died on the spot. Two other people were rushed to the hospital. Nearby vegetable stalls were also damaged in the incident. "I was sitting inside my house when I heard a loud crash. When I ran outside, I heard screams and saw 2-3 people lying on the road," a witness said. The accident caused a traffic jam, and police officers were dispatched to barricade the area.
