Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s fleet of aircraft expanded 3.5 times over the last decade, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Dinh Viet Thang told a recent seminar on Vietnam’s aviation industry in Hanoi. The seminar on opportunities and challenges of Vietnam’s aviation industry was held by the Ministry of Transport on December 11. From 2008 – 2019, the industry saw impressive growth, Thang said, with the number of passengers and volume of cargo experiencing 5.2-fold and 3.2-fold increases, respectively. The number of domestic and international flights grew by 2.4 times and 2.44 times, respectively, he continued. Pigs do not hold an honourable position in Vietnamese culture. However, they appear to be the most popular species among the six domestic animals since early history. Pigs, along with dogs, chickens, goats, horses, and buffalos, make up the full list of domestic animals. In the past, Vietnamese relied on rice farming and small-scale husbandry, thus almost every family had a pig shed at home. Almost everybody grew up with memories of pig sheds in the backyard. US social-ecologist reflects on destruction of world’s oceans at Saigon film screening, panel discussion
An American social-ecologist offered her insights into the effects of ocean pollution on fishing communities around the world, including Vietnam, during a panel discussion following a screening of environmental documentary ‘Trashed’ in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday afternoon. The American Center, run by the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, hosted a screening of the feature-length documentary followed by a panel discussion on December 9 as part of an effort to address the global challenge of saving the ailing oceans. First released in May 2012, ‘Trashed’ follows Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons around the world as he explores several destinations that have been hit particularly hard by ocean pollution, including Sidon - the third-largest city in Lebanon, the Gulf of California, and Plymouth - a port city situated on the south coast of Devon in England.
