Viet Nam News HCM CITY - HCM City authorities have decided to develop the Public Transport Management and Operation Centre into an agency that will use integrated solutions in public transport management instead of establishing a completely new agency. The aim is to improve the management of public transport in the city, especially after the first metro line Bến Thành - Suối Tiên is put into operation in 2020, city authorities said. Speaking at a conference on setting up a new public transport agency last Friday, the Department of Transport said it would research the development of a project to set up a Public Transport Agency (PTA) in the city. Ministry of Transport has launched a campaign, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to motivate transport officials and staff workers to commute by bus to work daily, in order to ease traffic congestion. The Ministry intends to submit a master plan to the Government during the first quarter of next year, limiting use of personal transport while increasing capacity and quality of public transport. Dinh La Thang, Minister of Transport wants to encourage transport officials and staff workers to commute by bus to work at least one day per week, to start with. He said that traffic congestions occurred on a daily basis and it has now become a necessity for officials, workers and residents to cooperate in helping ease traffic by using buses as much as possible. (VEN) - A meeting gathering suggestions for improving a public investment bill from ministries and sectors took place on April 18. The Ministry of Planning and Investment said at the meeting that the bill was expected to be submitted to the Vietnam National Assembly at the national assembly's sixth session in October this year. According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the public investment bill was first drafted in 2009 in accordance with National Assembly Resolution 72/2006/QH11 dated November 29, 2006 and was developed and revised in 2010 in compliance with National Assembly Executive Committee Resolution 883/2010/UBTVQH12 dated February 9, 2010. Ha Noi told to fight sexual harassment in public transport The National Committee for Traffic Safety asked the Ha Noi People's Committee to combat sexual harassment against women and girls on public transport. Accordingly, relevant agencies must identify locations, public transport routes and road sections where sexual harassment often occurs. The city must also improve lighting in areas where women are vulnerable to sexual assault, broadly announce telephone numbers for police in case of emergency and give instructions and advice on how to avoid and what to do when encountering sexual harassment. Women should be provided training in necessary skills to protect themselves in public places, and authorities should encourage them to report sexual harassment and other physical abuse, the committee said.
