Mindset change coming from the top at BAEMIN
Mindset change coming from the top at BAEMIN Some argue that the proliferation of online shopping and food ordering services has increased the demand for single-use plastic. How big a problem is this? Plastic waste is definitely among the most pressing issues that the food tech industry needs to find solutions for, besides food waste and increased carbon footprint. While people usually mention plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to factor in other aspects of environmental challenges in the food technology industry that we face so we can come up with more solutions. Since 2020 in many parts of the world, the use of single-use and disposable food packaging has increased as some believe it to be safer and more hygienic. Users, although becoming more environmentally conscious, seldom consider using leftovers for future meals or reusing meal boxes, plastic bags, or disposable cutlery. To renovate ourselves, we need to find a better solution because packaging … [Read more...] about Mindset change coming from the top at BAEMIN
BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam
Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam As online food delivery platforms grow, one of the most pressing concerns is the volume of plastic waste generated throughout its operations and how it is tackled. The effectiveness in which different countries are dealing with the plastic waste produced by online food delivery will be dependent on how well developed their recycling infrastructure is and the speed of online food delivery has grown. “While the recent discussion often revolves around the plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to review other aspects of environmental challenges posed by the food technology industry that is food waste and the increase of carbon footprint”, shared Jinwoo. The pandemic has prompted the use of single-use, disposable food packaging as consumers believe single-use packaging was safer and more hygienic. Even though they have become more environmentally conscious, it’s unlikely that they will consider keeping leftover food for future meals … [Read more...] about BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam

Plastic use drop hinges on consumers
There are many answers being discussed when it comes to use of single-use plastics, Photo: Chi Cuong After 40 years, Tan Phu Plastic JSC decided to change its name to Tan Phu Vietnam JSC. The removal of the word “plastic” from the business name is a bold decision as Tan Phu is known as one of the leading plastic manufacturing companies in Vietnam. However, the decision represents the redefinition of the firm’s development strategy towards sustainability and more environmentally-friendly products. At last week’s talk show Innovative Solutions and Substitutes for Single-use Plastic towards Green Consumption held by VIR last week, Tan Phu chairman Hoang Anh Tuan said, “In the past, we consumed about 20,000 tonnes of plastic per year in the production process. Now, it only takes about 12,000 tonnes to produce the same amount of products.” The increase in consumer awareness about single-use plastics in recent years has prompted manufacturers, retailers, and service providers to … [Read more...] about Plastic use drop hinges on consumers
Businesses get set for circular economy
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, at his meetings with Vietnamese farmers and agricultural businesses a few weeks ago, cited the success of TH Group as a fine example of high-tech agricultural development, and the circular economic model being pursued by the government. Famous for its TH true MILK brand, TH Group has been operating a $1.2 billion farm cluster project in the central province of Nghe An, featuring a state-of-the-art dairy cow farm and fresh milk production plant. The facility, which has a total annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes, hopes to quadruple the number of cattle to around 200,000 by 2025. To save production costs, TH Group has been operating a state-of-the-art system of solar power panels on the roofs of the farm cluster, and the system has been connected with the national power grid. As of last year, power produced from the panels has met one-fifth of the farm’s electricity demand. In 2019, TH Group began to use straws made from advanced bioplastics.
