Vietnam seafood companies urged to invest in India Hung Le HCMC – Smita Pant, Indian Consul General in HCMC, has called for seafood enterprises in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to sound out business opportunities in India. Speaking at a meeting between local and Indian business executives in HCMC last week, she said the Indian government offers incentives to foreign investors committed to aquaculture and seafood sectors, especially in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. As part of the “Make in India” campaign, foreign companies, including those from Vietnam, are encouraged to do business in the world’s second most populous market. She asked the An Giang government to send a delegation of seafood firms to the three states to do market research and explore investment opportunities. Vietnamese enterprises, especially those from An Giang, have great skills in farming and processing catfish, and export it to many foreign markets, she said. Cow urine can sell for more than milk in India
Carrying a large aluminum bowl, Susheela Kumari bustles around the back ends of two dozen cows in a shelter in northern India, ready for a lifted tail or squat that could signal an impending tinkle from one of her charges. Susheela Kumari. Photographer: Anindito Mukherjee/Bloomberg Distilled urine from female cattle currently fetches at least as much as milk in India, and Kumari’s boss doesn’t want to waste a drop. As it is, she and two other attendants who work around the clock in a cow shed in Bulandshahar, 80 kilometers (50 miles) east of New Delhi, collect barely half the 15-to-20 liters of fluid the animals pass daily. The most difficult task is to collect cow urine because how do you know when an animal will actually do it?” Urine from India’s indigenous Bos indicus cows, which are considered sacred by Hindus, is a hot commodity. That’s thanks in large part to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who’s introduced programs over the past two years … [Read more...] about Cow urine can sell for more than milk in India

The magazine has picked the companies based on market capitalisation and then adjusted for growth potential and geographic balance, to give readers a broader view across ASEAN economies in particular. This year, a total of 331 companies across Asia made the list. This included 83 Chinese enterprises, 44 enterprises of India, 42 Korean companies and 40 Taiwanese companies. Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Malayssia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand have at least 20 firms. Vietnam has only five qualified firms in the list. Nestle withdraws Maggi noodles in India after food scare
Food group Nestle has withdrawn Maggi instant noodles from sale in India citing "an environment of confusion for consumers", after a food scare triggered by a domestic regulator's report that some packs of the popular snack contained excess lead. Nestle reiterated the noodles were safe. But after coming under fire in local media for doing too little, too late in response, the group said early on Friday that it would recall the product regardless, weeks after food inspectors first reported their findings. In India's most significant packaged foods scare for nearly a decade, at least six states have banned Maggi noodles after tests revealed some packets contained excess amounts of lead. On Thursday, Tamil Nadu became the first state to ban several brands of instant noodles, including Nestle. "The trust of our consumers and the safety of our products is our first priority," Nestle said in a statement. "Unfortunately, recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product … [Read more...] about Nestle withdraws Maggi noodles in India after food scare

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., a local subsidiary of Suzuki, plans to construct the new plant in Manesar near its assembly base, with operation scheduled to begin in 2013, the Nikkei business daily said, quoting company sources.
