Gold ring price inched down 0.09% to VND55.5 million per tael. A tael equals 37.5 grams or 1.2 ounces. Global gold prices inched higher on Thursday as investors weighed the chances of the U.S. Federal Reserve slowing its pace of interest rate hikes, while a firmer dollar capped bullion’s gains, Reuters reported. Spot gold was up 0.1% at $1,906.01 per ounce. Few Fed officials signalled on Wednesday that they would push on with more interest rate hikes, while Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said they supported a slower pace of tightening. Traders are mostly pricing in a 25-basis point rate hike at the Fed’s Jan. 31-Feb. 1 meeting. Last year, the U.S. central bank slowed its pace of hikes to 50 bps in December after four straight 75-bp increases. Markets still see a 25-bp hike in February and rate cuts from September, and gold is enjoying the perceived less hawkish Fed, said Matt Simpson, a senior market analyst at City Index. … [Read more...] about Gold prices hit highest since November 2022

Trade and investment scenarios for Vietnam
Vaibhav Saxena - Lawyer, Vilaf Vietnam’s export turnover is still mostly contributed by foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs), making up almost three-quarters of the country’s total. Therefore, favourable policies can promote the growth momentum in 2023 and beyond amid stiffening competition. The government’s Decision No.1445/QD-TTg dated November last year lays down an action plan to implement the Commodity Import-Export Strategy (CEIS) to 2030. The CEIS provides for three main objectives. Firstly, it embarks on sustainable import and export on the basis of harmonious cooperation among the commodity, market formation and trade balance with particularly complex market and market area. Secondly, it expands commodity import and export in alliance with its investment in technical development, tech infrastructure, digital transformation, and development of green, clean, and sustainable production, along with improving the quality of human resources. This marked the resumption of the annual labour dialogue between the two countries after being suspended since 2017. Newly-announced ceiling prices insufficient to cover costs: project developers
Hoa Binh 5 Wind Farm in Bac Lieu Province. Project developers said the ceiling prices are insufficient for their farms to break even. — VNA/VNS Photo Many project developers are expressing concern that the ceiling prices for solar and wind energy set recently by the Ministry of Industry and Trade are not high enough to offset their costs. The representative of four wind farms in Gia Lai Province Tran Minh Tien remarked that the construction of the wind farms was completed a year ago but they have been idle due to the absence of official purchasing prices. "We have spent US$300 million to build our wind farms that have been lying dormant for one year. Meanwhile, interest payments and depreciated costs pile up day by day," said Tien. The introduction of the ceiling prices did not make the representative any happier because it is never easy to negotiate an agreement with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), under which the power corporation purchases electricity from the wind farms at … [Read more...] about Newly-announced ceiling prices insufficient to cover costs: project developers
