COVID-19: Imported cases reach 922 after six infections confirmed

The newly detected patients were placed into quarantine right upon entry and received treatment at local hospitals after they were confirmed to carry the virus. According to figures released by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the total number of cases involving local transmission has now reached 1,572, including Furthermore, over 49,560 individuals have been put into quarantine nationwide after coming into close contact with infected people or after arriving from pandemic-hit regions. Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, in his role as head of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, underlined the need to stay active in containing the spread of the pandemic, even when the country already has access to COVID-19 vaccines. This comes after more than 117,600 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, manufactured in the Republic of Korea (RoK), arrived in the country on February 24, with the inoculation process set to start on March 8. Six more imported Covid-19 patients confirmed on Friday

Six more people have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Vietnam, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,494, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday evening. Illustrative photo According to the ministry's report, one of the new patients is a 43-year-old Chinese expert who arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on February 19. He was sent to a quarantine area in Binh Duong Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on March 4. He is being treated at the Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital. Five other patients are Vietnamese people who recently entered the country through Ha Tien Border Gate in the southern province of Kien Giang and Moc Bai Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province. They were also sent to local quarantine areas upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals. With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,494, including 879 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28. Hai Duong Province alone has recorded 695 cases. As of 6 pm on March 5, a total of 1,920 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases. MoIT decides to impose self-defence measures on imported fertilisers

Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has decided to impose self-defence measures on imported DAP and MAP fertilisers after a comprehensive review of their impact on the Vietnamese market in line with the law. The imported DAP and MAP fertilisers are subject to self-defence tariffs in accordance with the Law on Foreign Trade Management and the World Trade Organisation’s regulations. The MoIT also consulted State management agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), about the review. fertilisers as well as input materials. DAP fertiliser prices have recently increased due to several external factors such as hike in prices of input materials and transportation services. Domestic demand for it basically does not rise compared to previous years. Additionally, prices of domestically-made DAP have not gone up, contributing to containing its common price increase. Therefore, self-defence measures are necessary to bring a fair competition environment for domestic and imported goods.
