Leaders of Vietnam and New Zealand have affirmed that both nations will work closely together in negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement in the time ahead. Meeting Governor General of New Zealand Jerry Mateparae in Hanoi on August 6, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made it clear that Vietnam treasures and wishes to further cement all-inclusive links with New Zealand, especially in economics, trade and investment. The Government of Vietnam will direct ministries and departments to work with the New Zealand side to effectively realise cooperation agreements reached during the visit, PM Dung said. Vietnam, New Zealand to raise two-way trade to US$1 bln by 2015
Governor General of New Zealand Jerry Mateparae highly valued the role of Viet Nam in the region and in the world and wished the country to harvest more successes in the future. The Governor General made that statement during his talks with Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang on August 5. State President Sang welcomed the Governor General and his spouse to Viet Nam, describing the guest's visit as a visit symbol of the two nations' relationship. He said he believes that the visit would contribute to strengthening and consolidating the two countries' comprehensive partnership. New Zealand provides over US$7 million to Vietnam in 2010-2011
New Zealand will provide US$7.1 million in aid for Vietnam in the fiscal year of 2010-2011, said visiting New Zealand Prime Minister John Key. He was speaking at a reception given by PM Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on July 12 who described the visit as a contribution to strengthening bilateral relations at a time when both countries are celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Mr Key congratulated Vietnam on performing its role as ASEAN Chair and expressed the hope that with young and dynamic workforce, Vietnam would continue to develop further. From September 6-9, 2007, President Nguyen Minh Triet will attend the 15 th APEC Summit in Australia. After that he will pay an official visit to New Zealand from Sept. 10-12 - the first ever visit to New Zealand by a Vietnamese President. The theme of the 15 th APEC Summit, which will be held in Sydney, and the APEC 2007 year is "Strengthening our Community, Building a Sustainable Future". The Summit will focus on six important issues, climate change and clean development, APEC support for multilateral trade system and the WTO, regional economic integration, security, APEC reforms and new membership admissions, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung at a press briefing in Hanoi on August 23.
