Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam welcomes positive political, security & socio-economic progress in Central Asia despite COVID-19 challenges and hopes the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) will maintain its effective activities in the region, according to Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Vietnamese mission to the UN. Addressing the UN Security Council’s online meeting on UNRCCA operations on January 27, Anh expressed support for and appreciated the work of the centre and its head Natalia Gherman, describing the centre as the UN’s role model in promoting preventive diplomacy in the region. Northern village locked down after woman tests positive for Covid-19
On January 17, a local woman left Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi for Japan to work. When transiting in Singapore, she had to undergo a Covid-19 test which then showed that she was infected with the virus. According to Vu Duy Dang, chairman of Hung Dao Commune, local authorities identified 17 people who had come into close contact with the woman. The people have been sent to the district’s health centre for quarantine and are waiting for their Covid-19 test results.
