A total of 1,023 houses have been built to donate to poor people in Vietnam and Laos in the last five years thanks to a campaign launched by the Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City. This outcome surpassed the target of the program, which was initiated in 2007 to organize music shows and call for donations from enterprises to build 1,000 houses to help poor people across Vietnam. Some firms and state agencies even volunteered to give away a billion dong (VND1 billion = US$48,100) each to fund the campaign without asking for any pay-back like advertisements. Among the 1,023 houses built, valued at almost VND29 billion (US$1.4 million) in total, Ho Chi Minh City features the most, with 530 houses located in the metropolis.
