Ninh Binh (VNA) – The Red Cross Society of northern Ninh Binh province held a humanitarian Lunar New Year fair in support of the poor and the disabled in Yen Thanh, Yen Dong and Yen Thai – the poorest communes of Yen Mo district, on January 25. Joining the event, 180 poor households and those living with disabilities had a chance to receive vouchers worth 500,000 VND (21.7 USD), which could be used once to buy necessities for free at stalls. Chairman of the provincial Red Cross Society Bui Trong Ky said the event is a joint effort among the provincial Red Cross Society, businesses and philanthropists with an aim to ease difficulties faced by the poor. Deputy Director of the Southern Investment Promotion Center Vu Xuan Dang said the country needs to create more favorable conditions for foreign investors, including policies to encourage the development of central animal husbandry areas and material zones, large-scale fields, and high-tech agricultural zones. The government should increase investment in infrastructure development in the northern mountainous region, the Central Highlands, and the Mekong Delta, which all have high potential for agricultural development. Hong Kong lifts first virus lockdown after 13 new cases found
Hong Kong lifted its first neighbourhood coronavirus lockdown on Monday morning after testing some 7,000 people and finding 13 cases as debate swirled over the efficacy of the move. Over the weekend police moved in to seal off a poor and densely populated neighbourhood of about 150 apartment blocks where coronavirus clusters had sprung up in recent weeks. Officials went door to door conducting mandatory tests and found 0.17 percent of those tested had the virus. Some community and business leaders were critical of how the lockdown was carried out. But officials defended the move as proportionate and said they would not rule out similar neighbourhood lockdowns.
